There are ongoing discussions to merge and rename some music infoboxes. This page was created to illustrate how, instead, the variables in some of the music infoboxes (primarily Template:Infobox Song, Template:Infobox Single and Template:Infobox ESC entry) can be separated (and renamed) so the infoboxes can be used simultaneously with minimal information overlap. Some variables that appeared redundant was removed and arguments for moving/merging/removing the particular variables can be viewed by clicking through the history starting here and then clicking "Next edit →".

With this proposal "Infobox musical composition" can easily stand alone (or together with "Infobox recording" and/or "Infobox ESC entry"), but a "recording" or an "ESC entry" will look poor without the "musical composition". The logic behind the separation is that any recording and any ESC entry is based on a song.

Remember that any variable not given in an infobox can easily be given in the article. Also remember the possibility of using the flexible template:Infobox for songs/recordings/entries that doesn't fit the mold.

Infobox musical composition (previously Infobox song)

"Infobox song" Should be renamed "Infobox musical composition" to be used even for instrumental compositions.
