List of 4 Articles for potential Writing:

Parasite Load: This is the 'number and virulence' of the parasites attached to a host organism. The page already claims to be significant for sexual selection and the evolution of sex, but goes no further. As such, I would suggest expanding this very short article to include the importance of Parasite load in both comparative and quantitative parasitology, as well as why parasite load is an important factor in health that may contribute to sexual fitness. Umbrella Effect: This is basically when an umbrella species provides protection to other species in the habitat by it's conservation. The page currently has a very brief example, but it does not discuss how the behavior of these umbrella species provides this protection. It would be a good page to expand for it's numerous aspects; we could talk about conservation, how umbrella behavior contributes benefits, or how loss of umbrella species can disrupt ecosystems. Supertramp: A supertramp is any animal that follows a strategy of high dispersion among a lot of habitats that it is not specialized too. It can cause a lot of problems for native flora and fauna. While the page describes them as a problem already, they don't give any good examples or explain what happens when supertramps invade a new habitat. I think the article could be expanded to include the behavior of supertramps in new habitats, and how they can change the evolutionary patterns of the organisms already native there. Homeorhesis: A concept that suggests that systems in biology are not homeostatic, but homeorhesitic: the system return to a trajectory , not a particular state. It's a really interesting concept that could be expanded a lot: why is it a better suggestion for some systems than homeostasis? What is meant by trajectory? Where does the support from the idea come from?
