Tunungwant Creek is a 12.78 mi (20.57 km) long fifth-order tributary to the Allegheny River.[2] This is the only stream of this name in the United States. According to a 1792 Reading Howell map of Pennsylvania, the stream was known as Ischunuangwandt. Today, it is locally known as 'The Tuna'.[1]

Tunungwant Creek forms at the confluence of East and West Branch Tunungwant Creek in McKean County, Pennsylvania in Bradford and then flows north to meet the Allegheny River about 5 miles (8.0 km) southeast of Salamanca, New York.

Watershed edit

Tunungwant Creek drains 315.95 square miles (818.3 km2) of area, receives about 45.8 in/year (116 cm/year) and is about 83.58% forested.[3]
