The Tournaisis (or Tournai and the Tournaisis) was a small territory in the Low Countries independent during the Middle Ages, consisting of the city of Tournai and the surrounding area.
The Tournaisis was situated between 3 larger neighbours: the County of Flanders, the County of Hainaut and the Kingdom of France. Its origins lie in a Roman Pagus. Later it was a Bishopric.
After a brief period of English rule, it was conquered by Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor in 1521 and remained part of the Habsburg Netherlands until 1789.
The Tournaisis was considered as part of the Seventeen Provinces.
