Merge to Template:IPA-cmn edit

I recently merged {{zh-full}} into {{zh}}. Part of that involved also 'merging' the sub-templates that {{zh-full}} used. See the template's documentation for the list. They were only meant to be used within {{zh-full}} and that's what I found; with a handful of exceptions they were only used within {{zh-full}} and could be replaced with instances of {{zh}} in all cases.

The only exception is this template, which is used in a few more articles than the others. It also can't easily be replaced with {{zh}} which doesn't support IPA. But there's another template that could perhaps replace it, {{IPA-cmn}}. That has a more standard name, is part of the set of IPA templates and works consistently with them.

  • {{zh-IPA|tsʰɑ̌ʊ tsʰɑ́ʊ}} gives Mandarin pronunciation: [tsʰɑ̌ʊ tsʰɑ́ʊ]
  • {{IPA-cmn|tsʰɑ̌ʊ tsʰɑ́ʊ}} gives Mandarin pronunciation: [tsʰɑ̌ʊ tsʰɑ́ʊ]
  • {{IPA-cmn|tsʰɑ̌ʊ tsʰɑ́ʊ|IPA}} gives IPA: [tsʰɑ̌ʊ tsʰɑ́ʊ]

The latter looks the same except for the links, but the current links, three to one item, are excessive, especially as both links appear in the first line of the main linked item, Help:IPA for Mandarin.

So the 14 or so uses of this in articles can be replaced with {{IPA-cmn|*****|IPA}} after which it can be redirected there. It makes no sense to have a separate template duplicating that's functionality. It was only meant to be used within {{zh-full}}, so is misnamed, has no proper documentation, categories etc.. Now {{zh-full}} is merged there is no need for this template to exist.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 01:05, 3 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

I've done the replacements, all of which were straightforward, and will now redirect {{zh-IPA}} to {{IPA-cmn}}.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 19:25, 3 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
