This edit has not yet been patrolled edit

@RHaworth: I never see "This edit has not yet been patrolled" in the legend. Does this actually show in the legend? --  Gadget850 talk 22:14, 26 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • No, it does not currently appear but I think it should. OK, the information pops up when one has mouse over the ! red shriek but a) not everybody knows that the dotted underline means there is pop up info. and b) more importantly, the mouse over does not work on my Android tablet - four browsers tested. If you can point me to where to change the MediaWiki interface page, I would be grateful. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:23, 2 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • I never see !. Does this require one of the patrol preferences? --  Gadget850 talk 14:29, 2 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Quite possible that you never see them if you are not watching recent stuff. Go to NewPages (hide patrolled), click "older 50" a couple of times to get to stuff that is not going to be patrolled soon, open a couple of pages and add them to your watchlist, view watchlist - you will see ! on the left between N and the time. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:32, 3 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • I see it now. This template simply replicates what currently shows in the legend on the watchlist for documentation purposes. You need to file a bug to get ! added to the legend. --  Gadget850 talk 11:51, 3 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Green bullet should be included edit

The green bullet should be in the legend. Right now we have this text near the top of the watchlist:

  • "Pages that have been changed since you last visited them are shown with a green marker."

Also, the marker seems to change from green to blue(?) when one has looked at the page, but the change isn't nearly enough to be noticeable without a magnifying glass. It needs to change to a totally different color, and use a slightly larger button. -- BullRangifer (talk) 03:38, 8 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion to trim the descriptions edit

Hello all- Suggest we eliminate the redundant "This edit"/"This is" language from the descriptions of the edit types. To my eye, the current legend reads a bit children's book-ish. I tried to get at the code that generates the legend, but can't find it.

I would change this:

Legend (help):
r This edit may have problems and should be reviewed (more info)
N This edit created a new page
m This is a minor edit
b This edit was made by a bot
D This edit was made at Wikidata

to this:

Legend (help):
r Edit should be reviewed for problems (more info) [or maybe simply: Edit marked for review (more info)]
N New page
m Minor edit
b Bot
D Edit made at Wikidata

Please let me know if there's a better place to post this suggestion. Eric talk 07:48, 24 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

I find it an improvement, more to the point. I would just suggest to make the fourth point "Edit made by bot" instead of just "Bot" to keep the same style as the first and last points. Atón (talk) 19:31, 24 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
Support, but agree with Atón, and suggest dropping the bolding of letters within the words. —swpbT go beyond 18:05, 27 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
Atón, swpb, thanks for your input. Re "bot": maybe simply "Bot edit"? Eric talk 18:42, 27 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
Yes. —swpbT go beyond 19:01, 27 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks again to all. I agree that my bolding of the abbreviation letters doesn't look great; below is a version where they're underlined instead. Does anyone know how to get at the code to edit the legend box?

Legend (help):
r Edit marked for review (more info)
N New page
m Minor edit
b Bot edit
D Edit made at Wikidata

PS- Anybody know how to put a box or border around this table? Or how to add a style to the table itself that generates an outside border without generating internal (cell) borders? Eric talk 17:54, 5 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

I added a border to the box, you can compare edits to see how I did it (adding the style in the same line as the initial {| ). In the original code you can see that see that the text is included from mediawiki pages: MediaWiki:recentchanges-legend-newpage, MediaWiki:recentchanges-legend-minor, MediaWiki:recentchanges-legend-bot, etc. So I think that to change the text you should go to those pages and submit an edit request there. Atón (talk) 11:33, 6 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Atón! Will do. PS- Can't find the mediawiki pages for review or Wikidata (MediaWiki:recentchanges-legend-review, MediaWiki:recentchanges-legend-Wikidata), but am submitting edit requests for the others. Eric talk 13:55, 6 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Eric: a few comments below:

  1. Next time please put the editprotected request on a central place (like this page) and make all the requests together. (It's much simpler that way!) I agree! I would have done so, but I thought the requests had to be placed on the individual pages.
  2. I have made the three changes requested.
  3. What is the purpose of underlining the first letter? As it is a wikilink, it is underlined anyway ... It was just an idea to highlight the letter used for the abbreviation. On my system anyway, the wikilink underline doesn't appear until you mouse-over.
  4. I assume there is no need for the nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; at the end of the link to Special:NewPages? I wondered myself what its purpose was; I simply copied the code as it was, figuring there was a reason someone put the spaces there.
  5. Is the link to Special:NewPages really useful or intuitive? I don't see its purpose, but again, didn't want to change it as that was not part of the discussion.
  6. MediaWiki:Wikibase-rc-wikibase-edit-title is one of the pages you are looking for. I can't find the other one at this time. Thanks, I added a request there.
  7. MediaWiki:Recentchanges-legend-unpatrolled might also interest you.

Hi @Martin, and thanks for making those edits! I'm replying to your questions above. Do you know anyone we could ask regarding the review description page? Eric talk 12:57, 7 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Try WP:VPT! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:32, 7 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Will do, thanks again for your help! Eric talk 14:04, 7 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

How about this one, for consistency shouldn't this to be changed as "Unpatrolled edit", or "Unpatrolled new pages"? Shinjiman 02:27, 24 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Update? edit

I see a rather different Watchlist legend. Is this just me or does the template need an update? — Ghost in the machine talk to me 06:22, 24 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

List of abbreviations:
r This edit may have problems and should be reviewed (more info)
N This edit created a new page (also see list of new pages)
m This is a minor edit
b This edit was performed by a bot
WD Wikidata edit
(±123) The page size changed by this number of bytes

Hi Ghost- I don't know why you see that. You may have passed through a wormhole and now exist in both the present and the before-time simultaneously?
Below right is what I see on mine.
Note: I failed miserably trying to lay out my response and pic to appear below yours -- any help appreciated! Eric talk 16:37, 24 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

I have slightly reformatted the above so that the image is glued to your text. (The {{-}} orders things correctly and the HR makes it more explicit.)
Not quite accepting the wormhole explanation, I have been hunting all over the place and have at last tracked it down. Both versions are "true".
I have Structured filters enabled and you have them disabled.
See this for the introduction of the feature
The killer bit is here. The watchlist legend definition flips over when Structured filters are enabled.
Not too clear how to put all that into the documentation!  — Ghost in the machine talk to me 22:20, 24 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Well done, thankee! In a bygone century, I might have been able to grok the killer at this late hour, but in these latter days, I'll have to wait til tomorrow, when I have at least a chance of being coherent. Intrigued by {{-}}... Eric talk 00:53, 25 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
