Template talk:South Park characters

Latest comment: 17 years ago by TTN in topic Why is this?

Does Butters really count as a main character? I would think "Main Characters" would only refer to the original four, or else all six (including Tweek).—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rowsdower45 (talkcontribs) 03:58, 28 October 2006.

Genreally I agree with you. Tweek was the fourth friend for awhile, so he should be classified as whatever Butters is. However, Butters has since been featured far more than Tweek and has had more character development. I think that Butters should be removed as a main character and just get top billing among the secondary character.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tweeks Coffee (talkcontribs) 17:36, 28 October 2006.
He may not be among the original four but he is certainly not just a secondary character given how much he as appeared in recent years. In my opinion, he should be counted as a main character, but not Tweek, who though was once briefly part of the main four, has not been prominent since.Watch37264 17:04, 29 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Okay, so does that mean that we should remove Kenny as one of the main characters since he does less than several of the secondary characters? Overall, Butters hasn't been a major part for the entire series, regardless if he is now. Tweeks Coffee 15:27, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
It seems to me that Butters should remain with the main characters. He was given significant development after Kenny's "death," (with his own episode "Butter's Very Own Episode") and has remained very prominant in the series since that time. Darwin's Bulldog 00:44, 5 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes Butters is not officially one of "the 4" anymore, but he has played and still plays way too many major roles in the past 3 seasons to be considered just a minor character. He should remain as a major character.
Yes, its time we removed Butters from that list. The show is centered around 4 main characters, the four friends, and not Butters.

Please, even if he has been recently given importance, he is not one of the 'main characters'

Okay, so how about we take a consensus here? Just post your opinion and we'll let the majority rule.

NO I consider the "Main Characters" to be the original 4. Secondary characters, no matter their usage, are still secondary characters. Tweeks Coffee 07:36, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

What about adding a section called "Former main characters" to allocate Butters and Tweek? That seems more politically correct... Patrickov 15:54, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
That would be a pretty thin section. Just the two of them in it? Tweeks Coffee 22:13, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
There should be more to consider than the number of entities included (and for your information, 2 is by no means a thin number). If we can't have a consensus to put the two in an available category, then we might need some kind of alternate solution which can present the different points of view more clearly. Butters is the odd ball fifth major character of the show. He is not a close friend of the other 4 but his unique relationship with the other characters especially Cartman along with his heavy usage keeps him as a main character. He has been given as much airtime for character development as Stan and Kyle.(Thrawny 19:09, 21 April 2007 (UTC))Reply
The problem is, unless we have references (for example, from Trey Parker and Matt Stone themselves), this view is still rather subjective. We can say something like "Many viewers see Butters as a main character" in Butters' article, but I am afraid that we need concrete proof to recognize this as a fact and include it in the template. goth kids edit

there should be something about the goth kids. theyve been in more that 1 episodes i think

they sure have, and though theyre hardly ever seen seperately, there quite significant secondary characters. they do appear in this list--Lygophile 23:45, 2 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

reorganising required edit

tshi needs regorganising. teh List of students at South Park Elementary, the List of South Park families and this template should be tweaked into an article about all the (recurring or importend) characters in south park, and then a brief mention in south park about the usual characters with a link the main 'main article'.--Lygophile 23:48, 2 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Is there a list of Celebrty appearances on South Park? If not, I suggest one be invented.

-Other People missing- I have notice that there still are a bunch of people missing, hense that lygophile wanted an entire list. Just a few, Ike, the goth kids, porche, that japanese kid that plays DDR all day, ect.

Articles edit

Do people like Mr. Mackey and Liane Cartman really need articles? I think we should just make a list of the South Park characters, and only have articles for the main characters, like what was done with this template. FictionH 00:07, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Not a good idea my friend; it would anger a lot of people. Mr. Garrison (talk · contribs)

That's not a valid reason to merit the inclusion of an article. --TBCΦtalk? 21:50, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Just because one template does something like that, another one doesn't need to. --98E 22:15, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

my eyes! edit

The current colour scheme for this template is unreadable! --Fredrick day 20:25, 7 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Colouring edit

What is this? Different template colour everyday! It's like Changing Rooms all over again. Mr. Garrison (talk · contribs)

Separate articles edit

By keeping separate articles for characters like students, townsfolk etc. it is a quicker way to navigate than scrolling down a long list of characters with some that don't belong there. By the way we do need the separate character articles because we would never fit in enough information on one small section of a long page. And any character who hasn't been in 4 (or more) episodes is not consider important, this has been discussed before. Mr. Garrison (talk · contribs)

Why is this? edit

Why were all of the townsfolk merged? I can understand this if we want to keep the template short, but merging all of the townsfolk, it's going a little bit overboard. --98E 22:29, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

It was decided on the project to merge all of the stubs until they actually need a page. The townsfolk were just one part. Nemu 22:30, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
