For the avoidance of doubt: not to be confused with ARMENIAN CAPITAL LETTER KEH

As far as I can tell, the new Russian ruble sign has not yet been encoded in Unicode. What it most certainly isn't is "ք", Unicode character U+0554, the ARMENIAN CAPITAL LETTER KEH, a character from the Armenian alphabet which bears a superficial resemblance to the new ruble sign, but is definitely not the same thing. Apparently, Michael Everson is on the job of getting a Unicode code point allocated for it. -- The Anome (talk) 18:10, 12 December 2013 (UTC)

Template-protected edit request on 12 January 2014

The current template doesn’t show the official shape of the new ruble sign which is depicted on this webpage and in this brochure, both published by the Bank of Russia. A correct SVG image named Ruble sign.svg has been uploaded to the commons under a free license, and the old image should be replaced by it. Template-protected edit request on 13 January 2014

Yesterday (Jan. 12 at 5:33 UTC) the template’s code was altered, and now Rouble official sign.svg is no longer used. Upon this (at 6:14 UTC) I had rewritten the last passage of the template’s documentation, but my change still doesn’t show up on the template page. Could someone kindly update it? Thank you. • Not done: please be more specific about what needs to be changed. I'm unsure what you are talking about. I changed the default image used and added a new |oldsign=yes option that will allow people to use the old sign (for now) and Rouble official sign.svg is still available through this method.   • What I’m talking about is transclusion of the documentation. I still see this text on Template:Russian ruble:

“Note that this uses File:Rouble official sign for small display.svg, a version of the ruble sign tweaked to render legibly at small point sizes. For a version of the symbol designed for display at larger sizes, see File:Rouble official sign.svg.”

This means that Rouble official sign.svg is still mentioned though this is a mistake as it is no longer used in the template’s code. Only Rouble official sign for small display.svg and Ruble sign.svg are. I had therefore changed this passage of the documentation to:

“Note that if oldsign=yes is set this template uses Rouble official sign for small display.svg, a serif version of the ruble sign tweaked to render legibly at small point sizes. Otherwise it uses Ruble sign.svg, the official sans-serif version of the symbol.”

I can see my changes on Template:Russian ruble/doc, but not on Template:Russian ruble where it should have been transcluded to. It seems that transclusion does not take place automatically, so it must be effected somehow by an authorised person. The thing to do is make my changes of Template:Russian ruble/doc visible on Template:Russian ruble, to transclude them. Neither more nor less. • Stepho-wrs, I prefer bullets. I've discussed this before in other places and to date no-one has shown me a policy the says I can't use asterisk bullet points. Displays huge in wikitables

I just tried to use Template:Russian ruble in List of circulating currencies#List of circulating currencies by state or territory. Unlike in text (), it is displaying about 8x size, not character size, everywhere it appears. This seems to be an interaction with the wikitable code:

Prefix vs. Suffix

As far as I've been able to determine, the rbl. sign is always used as a suffix, never as a prefix. Would it be possible for someone to look into this? TheCurrencyGuy (talk) 00:38, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

This template's only purpose is to display the ruble sign. It does not display any value. The {{RUB}} template is probably what you really want - which displays the ruble sign as a suffix. Eg {{RUB|10}} → 10 ₽ . Even better, use {{currency}} with RUB as the currency parameter. Eg {{currency|10|RUB}} → 10₽ .  Stepho  talk  01:55, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
