Merging template "Archive.org" to template "Internet Archive film" edit

I suggest we use just one of the templates and that the articles using the discarded template be changed (by bot?) to use the other. By using just one template we open for the possibility of easy listing of films available from the Internet Archive by the "what links here". I also suggest that the articles about films that use the Template:Internet Archive be using Template:Internet Archive film instead for the same reason: Easy listing. --Bensin (talk) 22:53, 3 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Viewing, not just download edit

May I suggest "viewing/download" instead of just "download?" --Lexein (talk) 07:17, 3 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

[more] link edit

Better than a link to the transcluded list, can this link to a category? emijrp (talk) 23:22, 13 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

That would be a really good idea, but I think it has to have 1) the creation of a new category and 2) the template would have to be coded differently. Some people may say a category of films available from the Internet Archive is a violation of WP:OC#TRIVIA because a film's availability from any given website is not a 'defining characteristic.' (I would disagree with them: if you're looking for my permission, go ahead and make the category) The template would have to be coded to automatically place any article in which it appears in a hardcoded category. This requires someone with template coding skillz (unfortunately, I have very, very little.) Also check out Help:Template. 207.65.109.10 (talk) 10:04, 16 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

more link redux edit

An editor at WP:FLC [1] finds the link "not useful in the slightest." Should we get rid of it? – Lionel (talk) 06:48, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes. Next problem. Lugnuts (talk) 08:58, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
At least some users find it useful. See statistics here. --Bensin (talk) 17:18, 6 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
That statistic doesn't tell us anything about whether or not people find it useful. I clicked on the [more] link because I thought it would show me other sites where the film was available for viewing (besides the Internet Archives). When I was taken to the Special:WhatLinksHere page for the template, I was utterly confused. Personally, I think the link is pretty useless. If someone wants to find movies at the Internet Archives, they should go to the Internet Archives website. We aren't a movie listing service for other websites after all. Add to category? edit

At the moment, the only way to see a list of films hosted at the Internet Archive is this pseudo-list Pages that link to "Template:Internet Archive film", which lists items in seemingly random order. Anybody firmly against the idea of having this template add to Category:Internet Archive films? A category is at least displayed alphabetically. --Lexein (talk) 15:48, 7 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Wrong parameter "name=" not well handled edit

An editor should have used "title=", but used "name=" instead, multiple times on a page. Lacking "title=", this template displayed the article name (as documented). This template ignored the unknown "name=" parameter (is reasonable). However, during editing, the unknown "name=" parameter caused no error. (Not helpful.) Maybe unknown parameters should display an error during editing. Or, maybe "name" should work as a synonym of "title". -A876 (talk) 00:11, 1 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Render Error edit

This does not render correctly:

Prelude to War is available for free viewing and download at the Internet Archive

I expect this result:

Prelude to War is available for free download at the Internet Archive

In addition, it renders differently on Why We Fight.

Please fix the template. 91.10.20.193 (talk) 23:41, 20 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
