A 'charity number' parameters? edit

I'm working on the article for Camara (Charity) and I used this infobox on it. Many charities around the world would have a certain tax status, and with that, a charity number. This infobox should include something for that Ebelular (talk) 13:13, 20 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

It might not be clear, but the example on the documentation page uses the "type" parameter for this information. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 13:41, 20 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
I added a "tax_id" parameter. I am not sure if this is vague enough for international use. Cmcnicoll (talk) 08:17, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Founders vs. founder edit

"Founder" in the code displays as the plural "founders" when used. Can this be repaired, or a workaround be used? Opakapaka (talk) 03:20, 19 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

edit

The logo/image parameter doesn't seem to work. serioushat 04:37, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

What's not working. I just check Freewheelers EVS and the infobox has a logo. --Biker Biker (talk) 13:58, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Slogan parameter edit

The slogan parameter doesn't seem to do anything. Or am I missing something? upstateNYer 19:44, 17 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

The template looks OK to my (not hugely practiced) eye. It translates as "if there is no parameter set for any of non-profit_slogan, Non-profit_slogan, organization_motto, or motto, then omit the line, otherwise add it with the label 'Motto'." If any of those are given as parameters (e.g. "non-profit_slogan = Our slogan") then it should show up. I just tested it on an NPO page and all four parameter names worked for me. Can you point to your Wikipedia page where it isn't working?
| label23 = Motto
| data23 = {{{motto|{{{organization_motto|{{{Non-profit_slogan|{{{non-profit_slogan|}}}}}}}}}}}}

It is self-serving, WP:POV, essentially fluff, unencyclopedic, and contrary to WP:MISSION. It should be removed.
As should the parameter "mission" for the same reason. It is easy to allow the encyclopedia to degenerate into an almanac or blog or .com page. I suppose this will happen eventually, but it would be wise to stave this off as long as possible. Student7 (talk) 12:56, 22 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Created sandbox & testcases for Template talk:Infobox non-profit edit

As per Wikipedia:Template_sandbox_and_test_cases I created these because I was interested in the org-name-above-infobox (using "title") vs org-name-within-infobox (using "above") issue. Looking at the template's history, I see that...

08:25, 14 January 2010 Cmcnicoll (talk | contribs) (1,776 bytes) (changed title to above)

which matches the Template:Infobox_organization style, but then...

13:39, 3 April 2010 Thumperward (talk | contribs) (1,844 bytes) (matching the {{infobox company}} style,
which also uses the more semantically valid caption element for the title)

changed it back. I set the sandbox to use the Template:Infobox_company style, "title within the box," so you can see the difference at the testcases page.

I may try to create a version of Template:Infobox_non-profit that gives editors the option to use either (as per the Manual of Style (infoboxes)), but that makes using the template a little more complex, and also breaks the basic idea that templates give a consistent look, at least format-wise. As it says in Template:Infobox/doc, though, "There are two different ways to put a title on an infobox. One contains the title inside the infobox's border, the other puts it on top as a caption. You can use both of them together if you like, or just one or the other, or even neither (though this is not recommended)."

Hmmm. --MouseRancher (talk) 21:56, 11 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Coordinates parameter added edit

I added a coordinates parameter for geotagging the infobox, as found in other infoboxes. I modified the documentation to include it. A description of how to use it was already in there (oddly). -- MouseRancher (talk) 23:08, 11 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Helpline number? edit

A significant number of charities tend to run helplines and advice lines. Wondered if there could perhaps be an option for adding such a phone number in the infobox?--Shakehandsman (talk) 01:19, 8 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think that would fall under WP:NOTDIR, specifically, point 3. Phone numbers aren't really encyclopedic material. TNXMan 02:15, 8 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
yes I know phone numbers themselves aren't encyclopedic, but I referring strictly to helplines only. I suppose it depends where you drawn the boundaries, emergency numbers are listed and I noticed other articles already have their helpline in the infobox, does this need removing?:

Opponents parameter needed edit

I added an "opponents" parameter at 18:56, 20 April 2011, but Tnxman307 reverted my edit with the comment "opponents? not sure how that applies to non-profits." What I have in mind is the "Center for Consumer Freedom" (CCF), which is indeed an opponent to a number of nonprofits. Witness this sentence from the Center for Consumer Freedom article: "CCF has campaigned against a number of organizations, such as the Centers for Disease Control, the Center for Science in the Public Interest, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, and Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, and maintains several websites devoted to criticizing them." I believe that an "opponents" parameter will be appropriate and useful. Wideangle (talk) 20:12, 22 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

While the info you describe is definitely appropriate for an article (provided it's well-sourced, neutral, etc., etc.) I don't know if really belongs in an infobox. To give "opponents" one line in the box is too vague to be useful. Does the line simply describe any group with opposing views? Groups which the article subject actively campaigned against? Groups that have actively campaigned against the article subject? Groups that compete against them in a Friday evening softball league? :) It's too wide-scope to be reduced to a line entry. Info not displaying in Info Box edit

I am trying to add more info in our info box for our non profit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriage_Equality_USA

I can edit and enter info like leader name and title, however when I save it, it does not display. Any help is appreciated! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.73.183.181 (talk) 16:26, 30 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Customisable tax ID link edit

The tax ID label currently links to Taxpayer Identification Number, which is specific to the United States. Would an option be added to change this link to other articles, such as VAT identification number for non-for-profit organisations in the United Kingdom? --Joshua Issac (talk) 16:12, 13 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

@Joshua Issac: added |vat_id=. Frietjes (talk) 16:50, 14 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. --Joshua Issac (talk) 19:04, 14 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Successor attribute edit

Is there an attribute for successor organisations? If not shall we create one? Jonpatterns (talk) 17:37, 17 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

done. Frietjes (talk) 18:46, 17 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

What's the purpose of the "footnotes" field? edit

Why would we NOT want to have a source cited? Isn't it better to use a citation or a reference rather then this field? Am I missing something?--CmdrDan (talk) 15:59, 5 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

seems that is for adding general references for the information in the infobox? Frietjes (talk) 00:14, 6 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
