Remove margin:auto auto edit

editprotected I'm requesting that "margin:auto auto;" be removed, as it is completely pointless (Navbox already uses margin:auto by default), and it will mess up some CSS rendering of the template once the new version of Navbox comes into effect (which will happen on May 1, 2008). This change should have no visible effect at all on this template at this time. Thanks, --CapitalR (talk) 19:23, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Done. Thanks, Prolog (talk) 21:56, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Change to full width? edit

For any interested parties, please see discussion at Template talk:National squad concerning changing the template to 100% width. Thanks, --CapitalR (talk) 12:36, 17 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Title link edit

Any chance someone could change the code of this navbox so that the endash is not included in the link to the club's List of managers? It's not urgent, but I just noticed it and now it's kinda bugging me. – PeeJay 19:04, 26 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Why? What do you want it replaced with? Woody (talk) 19:07, 26 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
No, I don't want it replaced with anything, I just want it so that the link begins at the letter "M" of "Managers", rather than at the endash. – PeeJay 21:11, 26 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't understand your reasoning, not that you have given me any, but I have changed it now. Woody (talk) 21:46, 26 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
To be honest, there was no reason, other than it just looks better. I just didn't understand why the endash was part of the link. – PeeJay 22:01, 26 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hang on, I've just looked at what you did. I didn't want the endash removing completely, I just didn't want it to be part of the link to the club's list of managers. Before, it read "– Managers", and I wanted it to read "– Managers". See what I mean? – PeeJay 22:03, 26 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Any change? – PeeJay 10:39, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Done, sorry about the wait, I didn't see the request. Regards. Woody (talk) 11:33, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
That's perfect. Nice one bud. – PeeJay 13:40, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Edit request from TheBigJagielka, 13 July 2010 edit

editprotected

Please replace the line

{#000;};"> {{#if:{}|Head Coaches|Managers}}</span>}}

with

{#000;};"> Managers</span>}}

and a line :

|American =

to template. It will allow US teams to have the words 'Head Coaches' instead of the British 'Managers' title. Please see source of request as it is not displaying correctly.

TheBigJagielka (talk) 16:35, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Have you tested this in a sandbox and could you place the specific code here, you seemed to have got them the wrong way round here. ;)
Do you want this added:

{#000;};"> {{#if:{}|Head Coaches|Managers}}</span>}}

Also, you can edit the template instructions yourself, they are are found at Template:Football manager history/doc. Woody (talk) 20:50, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Please could you copy over [1] to this template? I've tested it and it works. TheBigJagielka (talk) 22:57, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Done, thanks. Woody (talk) 23:47, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Is there any way to be able to be able to enter specific titles eg Coaches, Technical Director etc? Hack (talk) 04:22, 11 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Clean up style statements edit

Please replace the template code with this version of the sandbox. This will do several things, (a) make the version displayed at the top of the template page look better, (b) allow for the default to use style statements from MediaWiki:Common.css which is in compliance with wp:deviations, (c) remove the extra double semicolons. Since all calls to this template are specifying the colour scheme, it will not change the existing appearance in any articles. Thank you. Frietjes (talk) 16:21, 7 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

microformat edit

Please add an hcard microformat by adding;

bodyclass=vcard

and changing:

| title= <span style="{{#if:{}|color:{textcolor};}}">{{{title|{teamname}}}}</span>

to:

| title= <span class="fn org"><span style="{{#if:{}|color:{textcolor};}}">{{{title|{teamname}}}}</span></span>

Hiding club name DAB edit

How can the DAB in parenthesis of a club's title be hidden (see Template:Airdrieonians F.C. managers where I want to hide the 1878 in brackets)? Number 57 19:22, 24 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proposed replacement for template edit

Please see WT:WikiProject Football#Template:Football manager history where I have outlined a plan to replace this template in order to greatly reduce the number of templates that are called when a history navbox is used. Johnuniq (talk) 05:04, 8 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

I updated this template to use the module and am now working on the documentation. I have removed the following Interwikis as they should be in Wikidata. I'll try to investigate that later.

ar:قالب:تاريخ مدربو كرة قدم
bn:টেমপ্লেট:Football manager history
ja:Template:Football manager history
sv:Mall:Tränarhistoria

Johnuniq (talk) 03:32, 12 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Checking shows that each of the above is in Wikidata so nothing more is needed. Johnuniq (talk) 08:08, 12 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Temporary managers edit

How do we deal with temporary managers? For example for the Philippine national team, Thomas Dooley is the "regular" head coach/manager but the national federation decides to have another coach, in this case Marlon Maro to coach the national team in a December 2017 friendly tournament. Dooley isn't sacked and remains coach. Maro will just mentor the team for the said tournament. Can anyone please check my approach: Template:Philippines national football team managersHariboneagle927 (talk) 13:28, 28 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

When most recent manager tenure is within a single year edit

I've probably missed something, but if a a manager has left in the same year he joined, and a new manager is yet to be appointed, how would one format this? I was just trying to update . Nick Daws was appointed earlier this year and has just been sacked. Obviously 2018 produces 2018– but 2018 to 18 produces 2018–18. Is there a way of just displaying 2018 when it is the last entry? Nzd (talk) 11:38, 24 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

See my edit at which used a trick. I don't think it does anything bad. Johnuniq (talk) 11:47, 24 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Nice fudge   I'll remember that, thanks. Nzd (talk) 13:16, 24 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Support Template in list of manager name edit

The template list wouldn't parse correctly if a template is being used in the list. Here is the sample:

Using Template in list edit

Not using Template in list edit

Thanks for the help — Preceding unsigned comment added by Winstonhyypia (talkcontribs) 01:45, 14 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

The quick answer is that the module which implements this template expects the syntax shown in the template documentation. Also, why would it be desirable to have interwiki links for a manager with no article here? However, something strange is happening and I'll have a look later. I might need a reminder in a few days. Johnuniq (talk) 02:43, 14 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the reply. The interlink wiki template on list is not needed in English Wiki as every managers has it own wiki page. But it doesn't apply to other language. And I comes from Chinese wiki page, and they don't have wiki pages for all managers (example). It would break the this template if I use interlink. Therefore I would like to add the Interlink to reference to english wiki page. I am not sure how to do the modification myself, therefore I come here and seek for help. Winston (talk) 09:39, 14 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
I will fix it. The problem turns out to be simple: the module has some code that allowed a transition period from when the old template was still used, to the current situation where that template wikitext has been removed. The ill examples output includes wikitext that makes the module think it was dealing with an old-style template and so it did not change anything. I'll think about how to handle that. Johnuniq (talk) 01:31, 15 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Winstonhyypia: I put a new version of the module in zh:Module:Football manager history that I believe will handle the problem. Please test and report here if it is ok. If so, I will update the module here. Johnuniq (talk) 04:19, 15 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Johnuniq: Thank you very much. But I really need to say sorry because in the Chinese Wiki they normally use the Template:le. The reason I use Template:ill here is because the le template doesn't exist in English wiki and I also assume that the modification applies to all templates. In addition I put the test case in my sandbox so it would be very quick to see the result. I feel so sorry again. Winston (talk) 16:11, 16 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Winstonhyypia: I did a fix at zhwiki. You will see that check=no is used to disable the normal check for "=" that is useful to detect typos such as "frm=2001" instead of "from=2001". It's a bit complex and I have not finished checking but please try it out and let me know the result. Johnuniq (talk) 08:34, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Johnuniq: Really thanks for your help Winston (talk) 10:01, 19 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Template-protected edit request on 25 March 2022 edit

Change "Head coaches" to "head coaches" to match capitalization of "managers" and to comply with MOS:JOBTITLES. BLAIXX 23:58, 25 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please just start a discussion with a link to an article showing a problem, then ask for opinions on making the change. There should also be a link to a notice at the relevant wikiproject because very few people notice what happens here. Johnuniq (talk) 01:19, 26 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
In general I agree with you but this is a pretty basic grammatical error. I don't think this warrants a discussion. BLAIXX 18:11, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
