Interchanges

I'm not sure how to add the interchange symbol to the stations at the beginning/end of a tunnel, e.g. Earl's Court, or the joint-mainline stations, e.g. West Ham. Can anyone help? --TBM10 (talk) 21:28, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

Paddington stations label

I see that you reverted the edit fixing a link in Template:District line simple RDT, restoring the link to Paddington tube station (Circle and Hammersmith & City lines). I have no doubt this revert is incorrect, for the following reasons:

1. You may have a claim that the correct target is London Paddington station; it certainly is not Paddington tube station (Circle and Hammersmith & City lines).
2. Even the claim for London Paddington station doesn't appear tl represent what's done elsewhere:
   1. Template:Paris Métro Line 1 says that Line 1 has a connection to SNCF and Transilien Line R at Gare de Lyon (Paris Métro); however, these lines actually stop at the adjacent Gare de Lyon station.
   2. Template:MBTA Red Line claims that the Red Line connects to Amtrak and MBTA Commuter Rail at South Station (subway); the actual connection to these lines is at South Station.
   3. Template:1 (New York City Subway service) claims that New York Subway line 1 connects to Amtrak, the Long Island Rail Road, and NJ Transit at 34th Street–Penn Station (IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line); these lines all actually leave from Pennsylvania Station (New York City).

@Animal lover 666: Yeah, that was a sloppy revert on my part; I'd assumed the previous link was to London Paddington, which it clearly wasn't. As the diagram shows three (of the four) Paddington stations, I'd still argue that London Paddington is where it should link to, although, following WP:BRD I have not changed it from Paddington yet. The diagram is about the District line, hence it is illogical to name the blobs for the other lines but not name the one that is actually on the District line. If not naming all of them, these are the choices:

1. London Paddington station - not appropriate because that's the main line station, no Underground services
2. Paddington tube station (Bakerloo, Circle and District lines) - this is the correct one, because neither of the others are served by the District line
3. Paddington tube station (Circle and Hammersmith & City lines) - this is waaay over the other side of the main line station

I don't see how either no. 1 or no. 2 could be preferable to no. 3. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:07, 14 June 2022 (UTC)

@Redrose64:, @Animal lover 666: I've taken the liberty of moving the discussion here to help the "D" part of WP:BRD. I have the following observations:

1. The current, reinstated, version of the template links "Paddington" to Paddington.
2. I have explained above that my original reversion was sloppy and thank AL666 for pointing this out. I use London Paddington and know the locations of the four (or is it five?) stations in the complex and the lines or services they support.
3. London Paddington, which I was proposing be used instead, links to an article which begins Paddington, also known as London Paddington, is a Central London railway terminus and London Underground station complex, located on Praed Street in the Paddington area.. The article covers all the Paddington icons shown, including the District line one, so I can't 100% agree that it's inappropriate.
4. It appears I have self-contradicted a previous view I held that the Paddingtons should be linked to their respective specific line articles or sections. I am content to maintain that view and leave this template unaltered.

I made the original edit, in response to a VPT request. It seemed reasonable to me, as precedent elsewhere is to link to the Underground station rather than the station complex including associated Network Rail and other lines. For example, despite showing connections to National Rail, {{Bakerloo line RDT}} and {{Northern line map}} link to Charing Cross tube station and Elephant & Castle tube station rather than the broader Charing Cross railway station and Elephant & Castle railway station. They do so via {{lus|Charing Cross}} and {{lus|Elephant & Castle}}, so this is a central decision encoded in Template:Tubestation rather than random WP:OTHERSTUFF. However, if there's a consensus to link to the whole station in this case then I've no objections. I agree that linking to the Hammersmith branch would be wrong, as it is not served by the District line. Certes (talk) 12:54, 15 June 2022 (UTC)
