Usage edit

The {{WikiProject Dance}} template or banner is added to an article's talk page, which adds the article to Category:WikiProject Dance articles. The project banner template should be added to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. Usage of the template does not require any additional parameters; however, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner.

Example usage:

{{WikiProject Dance}} (to add an article to WikiProject Dance)
{{WikiProject Dance|Ballet=yes}} (to also add an article to WikiProject Ballet)

Example usage using parameters:

{{WikiProject Dance|class=Stub}} (to assess an article as a Stub)
{{WikiProject Dance|importance=?}} (to assess an importance rating to an article)
{{WikiProject Dance|importance=?|Ballet=yes|Ballet-importance=?}} (to assess dance & ballet importance)

It is also possible to use multiple parameters, e.g.

{{WikiProject Dance|class=Stub|importance=Mid|attention=yes|Ballet=yes|Ballet-importance=high}}

Full parameter list edit

{{WikiProject Dance
 |class=
 |importance=
 |attention=
 |needs-image=
 |Ballet=yes
 |Ballet-importance=
 |Ballet-todolist=yes
 |listas=
}}

To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.

Optional parameters edit

  • attention – set |attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention; this should be used sparingly. It is strongly encouraged to also add a section to the talk page explaining what needs attention.
  • Ballet – set |Ballet=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Ballet.
  • Ballet-todolist – set |Ballet-todolist=yes to display the WikiProject Ballet To-do list instead of the WikiProject Dance To-do list. When |Ballet=yes is set, the WikiProject Ballet To-do list is displayed by default: set |Ballet-todolist=no to display the WikiProject Dance To-do list instead.
  • class – valid values are fa, a, ga, b, c, start, stub, fl, list, na (case-insensitive). See the project's quality scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |class= blank or omit the parameter.
  • importance – valid values are: top, high, mid, low, na (case-insensitive). See the project's importance scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |importance= blank or omit the parameter.
  • listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for Anna Pavlova, use |listas=Pavlova, Anna so that the talk page will show up in the P's and not the A's of the various assessment and administrative categories). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter. For more information about this, please see Wikipedia:Categorization of people § Ordering names in a category.
    If the article is using {{WikiProject banner shell}} then it is preferable to add |listas= to that template instead of a project banner template. Putting the parameter on more than one template is not required.
  • needs-image – set |needs-image=yes to request that an image or images be included in this article to improve its quality.
  • category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.

Aliases edit

  • The parameter |ballet= is recognised as an alias for |Ballet=. If both |Ballet= and |ballet= are present, |ballet= is ignored.
  • The parameter |ballet-importance= is recognised as an alias for |Ballet-importance=. If both |Ballet-importance= and |ballet-importance= are present, |ballet-importance= is ignored.
