Usage edit

When an editor creates a citation to the source A Naval Biographical Dictionary (1849) by William R. O'Byrne, in addition (s)he only has to provide the date, volume, and page(s) number(s) to provide a full citation.

This is a problem if the same information is to be accessed on Wikisource because access is done through providing an article name and the information about volume and page is incidental.

This template allows someone who wants to provide a link to the information on Wikisource to access the page specified and the articles that are linked to that page. Once that information is made available via this template then the template {{Cite NBD1849}} can be used to provide a link to the article on Wikisource.

Example edit

{{NBD1849 djvu  |page=1}}

s:Page:A Naval Biographical Dictionary.djvu/15 p. 1; s:Special:WhatLinksHere/Page:A Naval Biographical Dictionary.djvu/15

Let us suppose you are interested in the capture of La Félicité. Checking the text it appears in phrase "on the occasion of the capture, on 18 June, of La Félicité French frigate," which appears in the section "ABSOLON. (Lieut., 1810. f-p., 36; h-p., 8.)". now click on the "WhatLinksHere" link and see what the article is called: "Absolon, William"

This section header along with the page number can then be inserted into {{Cite NBD1849}} to give a full citation:

{{Cite NBD1849 |wstitle=Absolon, William |page=1}}

O'Byrne, William R. (1849). "Absolon, William" . A Naval Biographical Dictionary. London: John Murray. p. 1.
