- Comment: The hook refers to salt suitable for human consumption, among other uses (referred to as pure salt, white salt, pure dried vacuum (PDV) salt) of which British Salt at Middlewich is a leading UK producer, and excludes rock salt for use on roads which is mined in much greater amounts at Winsford and elsewhere.
