  • ... that the Lygon Arms (pictured) is believed to have played host to both Charles I and Oliver Cromwell? Source: "In the Charles I suite at this historic hotel, the king's coat of arms hangs above the fireplace. It is reputed that Charles and his supporters assembled in this room during the Civil War. Later on, Oliver Cromwell stayed at the Lygon the night before the Battle of Worcester." [1] (subscription required)
    • ALT1:... that the Lygon Arms (pictured) has seen everyone from Prince Philip to Kylie Minogue? Source: "Former guests include .... Prince Philip and Kylie Minogue" (link as above))

Interesting, on good sources, subscription source accepted AGF, no copyvio obvious. The image is licensed and a good illustration. I am not happy with the ALT because it could possibly be said for more and younger houses. I wonder if the casual reader will get the irony of the original without a bit of history lesson. It looks like only Charles is "reputed", while Cromwell is sure? How about a hook about Cromwell and Prince Philip? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:35, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
The source in full says "Former guests include Edward VII, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Evelyn Waugh, Prince Philip and Kylie Minogue." Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 22:16, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
Yes, but that's not "everyone" - or is it my English? Also all these don't hint at the enormous age of the place, and the pic is too small to show. - I wonder if Oliver Cromwell and Elizabeth Taylor would make a nice pair in a hook. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:23, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
It's late in the evening and inspiration is running low - The Rambling Man, can you think of anything? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 22:27, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
Go cheap:
ALT2: ...that both Oliver Cromwell and Kylie Minogue have stayed at the Lygon Arms (pictured)?" The Rambling Man (talk) 22:30, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
yes! - Any idea for the Status Quo song? Or a third opinion? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:55, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
I'm trying to picture what Cromwell would say to Kylie if they were booked into the same hotel room? "I had rather have a plain, russet-coated Aussie pop princess, that knows what she fights for, and loves what she knows, than that you call a 'celebrity' and is nothing else" Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 23:03, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
You are welcome to improve, but I need sleep. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:06, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
* *ALT3: ... that the 600-year-old Lygon Arms played a key role in the 1649 English Civil War?
  • No problem. I just thought you were looking for more hooks. Restoring tick for ALT2 per Gerda's review. Yoninah (talk) 22:36, 13 January 2018 (UTC)
