List of aircraft accidents and incidents resulting in at least 50 fatalities edit

*ALT ... that between 1944 and 2012 there have been 470 high fatality aircraft accidents and incidents, across all seven continents, in which 46,839 people have died?

  • At 218 characters, the hook is far too long. It also appears that there has been no fivefold expansion of prose between 23 June and 28 June, which is a shame because a lot of hard work seems to have been invested in this article. Surtsicna (talk) 21:14, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Please check again. This list article was only moved from my sandbox to the article space on June 28th. It was nominated the day it was published... --Godot13 (talk) 21:30, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
Comment (and (edit conflict)): Looks like the article was moved from sandbox to mainspace on 28th June with this diff, so timing should be OK. in which 46,839 people have died could be left off the hook. Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 21:33, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
My mistake, of course. I apologize. I did not notice that it was created in user space. Anyway, you should propose an alternative hook that is less than 200 characters long. Surtsicna (talk) 21:36, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Thank you for looking again. I have proposed an alternate hook. Please feel free to suggest and changes that need to be made. Thanks--Godot13 (talk) 21:48, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
No problem. Per Wikipedia:Did you know#Eligibility criteria, the hook should have an inline reference that confirms the number of fatalities. Have I missed it? Surtsicna (talk) 13:45, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
Perhaps the references used to confirm the number of fatalities in individual accidents can be considered hook source per Wikipedia:No original research#Routine calculations. Does the routine calculations provision apply here? Surtsicna (talk) 13:50, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Thank you, yes it would apply. All (except two of the occurrences) are listed in the Aviation Safety Network database, and all occurrences have valid references. When each accident/incident is entered in a spreadsheet and the auto-sum function is used, the figures presented are the result. I really hope this is acceptable. --Godot13 (talk) 14:10, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
  • It is to me. Hopefully, it will be to others too. Good luck! Surtsicna (talk) 14:48, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Thank you. Based on comments in FLC review, I have added non-accident data to the aritle (attacks on aircraft) which has slightly changed the numbers. I have submitted an alternate hook which corrects for this addition. The numbers will not change again. --Godot13 (talk) 19:48, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Approving the new alternative hook as well and striking out the original to make it easier for the closing administrator. Surtsicna (talk) 20:52, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
