Offline source, but there's no reason to doubt the claim. (Question with no relevance to the DYK, but probably ought to be spelled out in the article: did she model exclusively for Renoir, or for other artists also?) – iridescent 11:08, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
- @Iridescent: Briefly, Collins (2013) refers to Tréhot as Renoir's "primary model" and states quite explicitly, "Tréhot's career as a model was proprietary and she worked only for Renoir". However, the literature on this is mixed. For example, Collins also cites information from Cooper that has recently been debunked by Le Coeur, Gélineau, House, and Distel. So we have to proceed carefully, knowing when to include and when to exclude; this isn't easy. My general rule is to find source parity in at least two sources that aren't necessarily relying on the same underlying source (such as Cooper). If I can find such a thing, I tend to lean towards inclusion. In the case of Collins, I either wasn't able to find it or haven't found it yet. Collins' claim becomes suspect when we look at other sources, such as Tinterow & Loyrette 1994 (assuming that this too hasn't been debunked). Regarding Frédéric Bazille's painting La Toilette (1870), they write, "Most scholars agree that the third figure was posed by Lise Tréhot, Renoir's companion and model." It certainly looks like her (I just went back to look closely at it, and I will say with certainty, it is her). Other than Bazille, I don't recall any references to other artists. If there are, I suspect Gélineau or House might mention them. Viriditas (talk) 11:10, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

- Good work sourcing it. Per my comments above, I have no issue passing the DYK regardless of whether this was included or not—it's just an obvious loose end that struck me while reading the article—but it's good to see it tied up. – iridescent 07:07, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
