John de Rantau edit

Obama in 2006

Created/expanded by Crisco 1492 (talk). Self nom at 10:37, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Article is new, long enough (2210 characters), neutral, and uses inline citations. Hook is cited within the article, image is free and looks good, hook is interesting. Looks good to me. Theking17825 21:24, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
  • I pulled this one out of the prep area because I'm concerned about the hook for BLP and political reasons. The reader could easily [mis]interpret the hook as indicating that John d Rantaul had revealed that Barack and Michelle Obama had employed a transvestite as a maid. This is, of course, a fictitious element included in the biopic, but that's not evident from the hook. The image is misleading, too, because it depicts Obama as an adult (implying that the biopic was about the family that he heads as an adult), when the biopic is actually about Obama's childhood family. This would be a concern if the subject were any living person. Particularly considering some people's eagerness to believe every negative rumour about Obama that they've ever heard, this hook is not appropriate for the main page. We need a new hook. --Orlady (talk) 15:17, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
  • Alright, ALT1 ... that John de Rantau's first film was disallowed from several film festivals for being in the wrong format?
ALT2 ... that John de Rantau has worked on films about AIDS, education, physics olympiads, and Barack Obama's (pictured) childhood?
Any better? Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:52, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
I'm uncomfortable with ALT1, as it's a negative fact about the article's living-person subject. ALT2 is sufficiently neutral, but it seems too complicated for an effective hook. Try this idea:
  • Sounds alright. I don't think ALT1 is overly negative, since we do allow hooks about people being imprisoned and whatnot. ALT3 is a good choice too. Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:43, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
  • Part of the reason why I didn't like ALT1 is that showing up at film festivals with the wrong format seems like a relatively minor detail in his biography. YMMV. --Orlady (talk) 04:56, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
  • No worries now. ALT3, please. --Orlady (talk) 14:26, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
