- That's still pretty long! What about something like Alt 2: "... that Jeffrey Swanson led a 2015 study that found about 22 million Americans who reported angry behavior had easy access to guns?" By the way, our article doesn't state the access was in their homes, though the abstract of the article cited states 8.9% did (presumably this is where the approx 22 million comes from?). - I'm OK with Alt 2. I have just added the "at home" part to the article, as this story says that this study "found that 8.9 percent of them [the adults in the study] were admittedly short-fused people who had guns at home". Wa Po also says that 22 million is "8.9 percent of the adult population". [1] Everymorning (talk) 17:28, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
- Looking at the source you link, I wonder if it might be better to go with the 8.9% figure? Extrapolating to ~22 million on the basis of a study of ~5,600 seems a little bit of a stretch. It's a pity the article isn't available for free. Espresso Addict (talk) 17:42, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
Okay, then I suppose that now I should propose ALT 3, which is "that Jeffrey Swanson led a 2015 study that found that 8.9% of American adults both reported angry behavior and had easy access to guns?" It's only 146 characters, and I think it addresses the concerns above. We can add "in their homes" to the end of ALT 3 if you want, but I don't think it's necessary, as I think this hook is good to go as it is, but I'll await a response from Espresso Addict.
