QPQ: Done.

Overall: Much of the article is the same as the sources and can be reworded. - "outrageous costumes to entertain and raise money for the Indianapolis", "bags full of costume changes", "raised $2,000, half of which went to", "and half to local organizations", "organize events like the Garage Party", "night a new Bag Ladies Queen is crowned", "fundraising organizations in the country", "The group supported local efforts to help those", "money to help open and run the Damien Center", "other organizations such as", "awareness of safer sex practices to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs)", among others per Earwig. I won't list them all here. A QPQ is needed due to the nominator having five prior DYK nominations. This is now ready. SL93 (talk) 03:30, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

  • SL93 I've addressed the needed rewording/paraphrasing and reviewed another DYK on behalf of User:Dominic. Please let me know if there's anything else needed. Thanks for your work & help. JamieF (talk) 02:37, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
    • Thank you. This is now ready. SL93 (talk) 12:43, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
      • @JamieF and SL93: the Indy Star source says that the organization claims it's one of the oldest – I'm afraid that's not quite good enough for wikivoice. Do you want to try and attribute inline? I think the hook works well enough without it, honestly... theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/they) 09:50, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
        • @Theleekycauldron: From some research, it seems like that assertion has been floating around for a while, and can be supported by other reputable media sources with less wishy-washy wording. For example, this short blurb in their award recognition by NUVO in 2010 calls them "Possibly the first HIV/AIDS fund raising organization in the nation". Another short blurb in 2014 in Indianapolis Monthly calls them "one of the oldest service-meets-social organizations of its kind nationwide". And, as long as we are accepting the fact, as that same Indy Star article and other sources state, that they started in 1981—mere months after AIDS as a disease was even first identified—it's worth pointing out that the factual basis of the claim is not really in question, since it is self-evidently true that they would be "one of" the first such organizations. Let's not deny them their due just because that Indy Star writer was being mealy-mouthed in their reporting. Dominic·t 02:25, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
