Edvard August Vainio

  • ... that Edvard August Vainio's tools for collecting lichens in Brazil included a knife, hammer, chisel, paper and a bag, and a shotgun? Source: "In addition to a knife, hammer, chisel, paper and a bag, Vainio used to have a rope to use in climbing on trees to collect epiphytes, and a shot gun, to use against jaguars." Ahti, T. in Recollecting Edvard August Vainio (1998), page 41.

  • Well done on writing such a thorough and well researched article. Recently promoted to GA, long enough, well referenced, neutral, and although most of the sources are offline or in other languages, I didn't see any close paraphrasing on a spotcheck of a few online sources. The hook is certainly interesting and cited inline (thanks also for providing the relevant excerpt above). A QPQ review has been provided although it isn't strictly required as this is the nominator's first DYK nomination. 97198 (talk) 12:19, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
