  • Oops! I forgot to put the nom template on T:TDYK till now! Sorry! --PFHLai (talk) 02:30, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
  • I hope I did not miss any of the contributors. Please add as needed. --PFHLai (talk) 02:34, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Looks good. 5x expansion verified. Age, length, referencing OK. No close paraphrasing seen. I tweaked the hook to make it punchier. I did have a question in the section, Competition, third paragraph, second line -- should this be a whole sentence, or part of another one? I went ahead and copyedited the whole section; please make sure I didn't make any mistakes.
  • What do you think of this alt?
  • ALT1: ... that a spectator who threw a beer bottle onto the track at the men's 100 metres race in the 2012 Summer Olympics happened to be sitting next to judo bronze medalist Edith Bosch, who restrained him? Yoninah (talk) 21:58, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
  • I am happy with ALT1 and with the 3rd paragraph. Thank you. --PFHLai (talk) 10:00, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Great, thanks. Hook ref verified. ALT1 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 10:16, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Adding "beer bottle" to hook for a little more color. Yoninah (talk) 10:20, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Hi again. I'm just wondering if the hook can be even sharper:
  • ALT2: ... that a man who threw a bottle onto the track at the men's 100 metres race in the 2012 Summer Olympics was subdued by a judo chop from judoka bronze medalist Edith Bosch, who was sitting beside him? Yoninah (talk) 13:22, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
  • None of the ALTs (nor the article, for that matter) match what is in the cited BBC source: she's quoted as saying she struck him in the back with the flat of her hand. He wasn't restrained, subdued, or tackled by her, though he was then "scooped up by security". I've struck them all; a new one will be needed. Note to Yoninah: as a general rule, you should never approve an ALT hook that you proposed. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:09, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
  • How about "confronted"? --PFHLai (talk) 00:59, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
  • BlueMoonset: I have never heard of this rule. My understanding is that it's the reviewer's job to bring the nomination to fruition, not to let it wait for other reviewers to weigh in. I often copyedit articles and format references to bring the article up to snuff, for the same reason.
  • When I reviewed the nomination, I did note that the article says what the BBC reports, without using quotes or close paraphrasing. I agree with PFHLai on the new wording choice:
  • ALT4: ... that a spectator who threw a bottle onto the track at the men's 100 metres race in the 2012 Summer Olympics happened to be sitting next to judo bronze medalist Edith Bosch, who confronted him? Yoninah (talk) 08:20, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
  • ALT4 hook covered by cited source, remainder of approval per Yoninah earlier. Yoninah, I was referring to WP:DYKSG, rule H2. There's no problem with copyedits and reference formatting—indeed, they're a great thing to do to help out, and I do them too sometimes—but when it comes to rewriting a hook (as opposed to cutting it, when it doesn't change the facts), you should have other eyes look at it for just the reason I had to intervene above: to see whether the new wording is reflective of the article, cited there, and confirmed in the cited source. (This also applies if you add new material or new sources, which are then used for the hook.) The issue is also addressed in the DYK reviewing guide (WP:DYKR): "You can also suggest an alternate (ALT) hook that is shorter. Just remember that you shouldn't then approve your own ALT hook." BlueMoonset (talk) 16:50, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
  • OK. Thanks for pointing that out. Yoninah (talk) 18:29, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Reiterating hook where it's easier for someone promoting to prepare to see; ALT4 above is approved. BlueMoonset (talk) 06:48, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
May I ask for a slight tweak, please? ALT5: ... that a spectator who threw a bottle onto the track at the men's 100 metres race in the 2012 Olympics was immediately confronted by judo bronze medalist Edith Bosch, who happened to be next to him? --PFHLai (talk) 23:06, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
