This template was created to easily update any relevant article with the 1970-71 NHL West Division standings, rather than creating a separate wikitable for each article.

To use the template on any article, insert:

The template also has the capability to highlight a particular row of team's statistics in green, simply by appending a three-letter code to the template name. For example, if you want to highlight the Pittsburgh Penguins' statistics, insert:

The codes for all teams in the West Division are as follows:

• California Golden Seals = CAL
• Chicago Black Hawks = CHI
• Los Angeles Kings = LAK
• Minnesota North Stars = MIN
• Philadelphia Flyers = PHI
• Pittsburgh Penguins = PIT
• St. Louis Blues = STL
