Origin of the Zwolle Tamale edit

That is a great tidbit of information surrounding where the tamale came from but the banter calling the original source-cited post explanation 'tenuous' without a reference itself is a bit ill-founded. Discussion of that belongs here on the talk page. I am a local and I've never heard of the explanation provided. If that can be cited with a credible source of information, it would be great. I hate that it wasn't signed not because I question the individual who posted it, but I would think they had more knowledge they could contribute to make Zwolle's wikipedia page more complete. Our town has a very rich history and a very intriguing story to tell the world.

Black Archives edit

Gable and Moses Toombs came to Zwolle in the early 1900's from Shelby,County Texas when they were given 40 acres and a mule each in Zwolle, Louisiana. This area of Zwolle was called, Spring Ridge. Gabel and his wife Fannie Toombs worked this land and raised their seven children, Ike, Charlie, Johnny, Vera, Pinkey, Eva, and Lucille. Moses Toombs Sold his 40 acres and left early. Gable and Fannie stayed until all of their children were grown. The land sits bare with their old home still on the land. Some of the siblings have been selling timber for years from the good piece of land. Gabel died in the early 1930's. Fannie moved to the area owned by Matt Hale which was closer to the downtown area. Their 5th daughter, Pinkey was a self made seamstress and made dresses and shirts for many people, all colors and creeds,in and around Zwolle. Pinkey and her second daughter, Pearline worked for whites and Mexicans for 30 cents a day. Fannie's family started to move away to Shreveport, Texas, Kansas City, Missouri, and many other places. Fannie died in Zwolle in 1953. Her funeral was held at the old Macedonia Baptist Church over from the Matt Hale Quarters. If anyone of their family members made great accomplishment she would say, " That's that Cuffee in them."oo Fannie Toombs grand daughter, Elaine Jones, Pearline's daughter — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.54.78.76 (talk) 16:09, 21 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
