Arbitrary section 1

Looks to me as if Zumba is a commercial rip-off of the Brazilian dance Axé 83.83.7.253 (talk) 20:04, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Agree. I just participated in one section yesterday, and I had never heard about it before. Knowing Axe, and all of this stuff, I can say that Zumba is really good! they just put the right package, and the right latin songs and dance into it! Mlonguin (talk) 23:21, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism

Who ever has vandalised this article should know that it is not an option to write his personal opinion as article. That's what Discussion is for. I just reverse the changes, as the previous article doesn't sound to bad to me.DeepCommons (talk) 12:17, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Past edits

If you restore text from a previous edit, please check for copyright violations.

Past edits which include the phrase "A Zumba workout mixes body sculpting movements with dance steps derived" are likely copyright violations, as are versions with the phrase "It was founded by Miami-based dancer and choreographer." I say "likely" as the original source may have been released under a Wiki-compatible license, or possibly but not likely, that Wikipedia was the original source. From the looks of things these phrases are probably part of widely-copied marketing copy. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 13:53, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Merging in Alberto Perlman

Alberto Perlman is largely known for only one thing and likely doesn't qualify for his own article. Even if he does, the project is better served with content related to him being in this article.

Due to a pending WP:AFD discussion the merger should not happen until after the discussion is complete and then only if Zumba is kept. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 18:06, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Zumba aerobics vs Zumba the company

I continue to try to add more information about Zumba the company -- which I thought this article was about, but Bhny keeps deleting it. Should we split the articles in to two? One article about the company, which is doing a lot (merchandise, wii game, etc.) and one about the "dance" — Preceding unsigned comment added by John.s.hager (talkcontribs) 21:27, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

The first time this stuff was added it was copied and pasted straight from the web site. Now it seems to be copied from other articles. Either way it's not very interesting stuff and is written in a promotional style instead of something suitable for an encyclopedia article. We don't need a whole section to tell us that is sells promotional "tank tops, shoes and flip flops". The Classes section actually duplicated much of the Exercises section, I guess you made a mistake there.Bhny (talk) 21:45, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

OK, I made a new product section and added back some of your info, like not charging a licensing fee. Basically this article has to be pretty dry, if someone wants the full marketing speak they should go to zumba.com Bhny (talk) 22:08, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Also wikipedia doesn't usually include planned products (like the game) only things that are currently released Bhny (talk) 22:13, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

The article gives no views against the use of Zumba. Zumba is of limited value as far as health benefits are concerned. There's nothing wrong with making money though of course. However Wikipedia shouldn't advertise. If that is putting my point too strongly then apologies to all who are concerned. Fletcherbrian (talk) 10:26, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

Are there published articles about the limited benefits? Bhny (talk) 00:28, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

Zumba Class Count?

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the official website under the About Zumba Classes say six different classes but list seven? It's also in the article (under exercises). Maybe I'm missing somthing? Thanx! ReelAngelGirl (talk) 22:00, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Yes, changed it Bhny (talk) 22:10, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Section Prostitution

I fail to see why isolated cases have been added in a section. I doubt there is an unsually high prevalence of prostitutes among Zumba trainers. The section should be removed. O.Koslowski (talk) 17:17, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

According to the references I provided (and thousands more in reputable newspapers worldwide), it WAS highly prevalent. In one case, over a hundred men from one small town were charged with being johns, including the former mayor, lawyers, and police. This is very notable not only for the prostitution charges but also for the corruption of high level officials. Zumba has some explaining to do and their silence on the matter is suspiciousTakethemdown (talk) 17:23, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
Since when is heavy.com a reliable source? Come back with the reputable newspapers worldwide and perhaps an analysis that shows that these are not isolated incidents but that this is something systemic. O.Koslowski (talk) 17:28, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
If you have any reliable sources which explain that the prevalence of prostitution connected with Zumba is significantly greater than the prevalence of prostitution in other settings, or even just in other widespread exercise programs, state this clearly in the text. Otherwise I vote to delete this section altogether. A few isolated incidents, even if one of them was a really big deal, aren't enough to justify putting this here as if the connection is intentional. Psychojosh13 (talk) 18:09, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
In wikipedia's own page on Zumba it states that there are 217 employees. The media has revealed serious prostitution charges against these two. That's about 1% of their company roster. Aside from the sex industry itself, I'm not aware of any other business or industry where so many people are hookers or pimps. We need to teach them a lesson and show the world what they're up to.
"We need to teach them a lesson and show the world what they're up to." We do? Why? And how will an article that can be edited by just anybody teach them that lesson? But besides that, two people out of 217 is too small a number to make a meaningful inference. If those two people both got fired from the Zumba corporation and moved to some other company with only 100 employees, and continued prostituting on the side, then that new company now has about a 2% rate of employees being prostitutes. Is the new company to blame? Psychojosh13 (talk) 15:38, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Also I added more links from even more reputable news sources, some from overseas showing this is big news. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Takethemdown (talkcontribs) 18:43, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Zumba instructors are not Zumba employees. Do the math. 217 employees; 110,000 locations doing Zumba instruction; 12 million people. --jpgordon::==( o ) 19:55, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

a large swath of the population had never heard the term until the scandal broke. like it or not, "zumba" is now being used sarcastically in such expressions as "getting a zumba". while prostitution may rightly have been limited to one small franchise, the entire chain/movement is now tainted by it.

how about an isolated section titled "Allegations in Kennebunk, ME Branch" or the like? that's how other wikis handle similar issues.

or a link to a dedicated wiki of that sort. is one going up? 66.105.218.20 (talk) 00:54, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

It would at least be something interesting on this boring article Bhny (talk) 23:40, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
