Etymology of Panega

edit

I have a source [1]that says Panega the river name derives from Greek πανάκης, πανάκεια "all-healing", that is to say, Panacea. In Thracians times and in more-or-less Hellenized Thracian times, the river was sacred to Asklepios and Hygeia, who were venerated there. An izvor (spring) associated with the river was called "Saldobyssa" interpreted as meaning "Healthy Spring/Izvor" in Thracian. Saldo- being cognate with Latin soldus and byssa (water source, spring) perhaps deriving from PIE *beu-"to bubble out". Alex (talk) 09:38, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
