Considering this is about the new zaire, it should be split into 2 pages then. Enlil Ninlil 15:57, 4 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:1000000zaz.jpg edit

Image:1000000zaz.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The 1979 Z5 and Z10 banknote re-issue edit

I was a little surprised to see no mention of the disastrous (for the people) re-issue of the Z5 and Z10 notes on 25 December 1979. With no warning, an announcement was made over the national radio that all five and ten zaire notes were worthless, and new notes were issued with the colours swapped. The old notes had green Z5 and blue Z10; the new blue Z5 and green Z10. The move was supposed to be due to a crisis in liquidity in the banks, due to people hoarding the money at home - a vicious circle, as the banks could not cash cheques, etc which caused people to mistrust the banks and hoard the more... Only money held on account at the banks was exempt. The government relented a little - it was declared that everyone would be allowed to exchange up to Z100 of old notes at the banks for the new, between December 27 and 29. The obvious happened - the crowds were such that most people never had a chance to get near the banks. The result was failed businesses, economic wipeout for most people. (I arrived in Zaire just over 3 years later - people were still getting over the effects.) One account of the disaster can be found in Bob Prouty, "Mission: Africa", Boise ID: Pacific Press Publishing Association, 1984. Ptilinopus (talk) 14:05, 9 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Introduction of New Zaires edit

By the time the New makuta arrived in Equateur Province, in 1994 - in denominations of 50 and 100 - they were already worthless and given to children to play with. I never saw - and would like proof of their existence - any 1, 5, 10 or 20 new makuta (1993) banknotes. Francis Hannaway (talk) 19:19, 15 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
