Yudhisthira's father?
Was it Yama?--Dangerous-Boy 05:19, 19 May 2006 (UTC) Dharma(Not to be confused with Dharmaraja Yama)? - Dharma or Yama Dharmaraja are one and same demi-God, who is responsible for righteousness as well as Death. He is son the Sun God. Yamuna being his sister.
Dharma and Yama are not one and the same. Dharama is in charge of the Rta or natural Order. He is often depicted as an Ox. He is born from the right breast of Brahma, he is married to ten daughetrs of Daksha. he has many sons, among which are the Avatars of Vishnu : Nara and Narayana.
Yama on the other hand is the God of Death, and the Judge of the departed souls. This Judgement he does abiding by principles of Dharama and thats why he is called Dharmaraj. Yama is the son of Surya, the Sun God.
However an Indian Comic Book - The Amar Chitra Katha depicted Yama as Yudhisthira's father, maybe because the God Dharma's physical attributes are not very well-known and neither are his proper role. Thats why they depicted Yama as Dharama, and fromn ther starts the confusion. Maybe some South Indian local Traditions also make Yama and Dharama same. And some people are so rigid in this belief that the keep converting Dharma to Yama in thsi article. In the Mahbharata, Yama is never mentioned in relation to Yudhisthira. there is however one incarnataion of Yama in Mahabharata, that is Yudhisthira's uncle, Vidura.

Qualities of Yudhisthira
It will not be exaggerative to said about Yudhisthira that he was an ideal person and have some qualities, for that he is remembered often. Like in Treta yuga Maryada purusottam Ram is known for his qualities and ideals, similarly in Dwapara yuga, Yudhisthira is known as ideal person according to his qualities, which he possess. Therefore in Mahabharata , over all the behaviour of the Yudhisthira is eyecatching due to his qualities.
Except one quality of gambling, he have no other bad habits. The followings are the good qualities of Yudhisthira:
- Nirvairata [No enemy feelings]
- Dhairya [patience]
- Akrodha, kshama [No anger, excusive]
- Satya [Truth favouring]
- Vidwata, Buddhimatta, Samata [Learned, Intelligent, Equality]
- Pavitrata ka Prabhav [effect of piousness]
- Udarata [Generousness]
- Tyaga [Unloving to wordly things]
