Really? There is an old man who plays the yu outside my apartment every weekend. There are also plenty of videos on Youku of people playing this instrument. Tooironic (talk) 14:55, 16 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'm another who wonders why this article is written in the past tense. To quote the article at Shō_(instrument),
A larger size of shō, called u (derived from the Chinese yu), is little used although some performers, such as Hiromi Yoshida, began to revive it in the late 20th century.
This would suggest that the instrument, even if little used, is not dead -- and there is at least one recording of a modern Taiwanese concerto-style composition for yu and ensemble. -- Picapica (talk) 22:13, 27 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
