Does Yorba still exist?

Yes, Yorba still exists, and their homepage has unfortunately always been like that. But it's true Yorba hasn't given much news recently, maybe due to the fact they have not been recognized as a non profit organisation by IRS, and had to reduce costs. Hello guys. I decided to reach directly the sources of the infos and emailed Adam Dingle directly. Unfortunately, this is true, Yorba is no longer active :-(. Read below.

thanks for your message.  It's true: Yorba is no longer active.  Jim Nelson was the last Yorba employee and left at around the end of April of this year.  Quite simply our funding ran out, and donations to Yorba were not nearly enough to match expenses.  The tax exemption denial didn't help, but even if we had received 501(c)3 status we would still probably have had to shut down.  The tough truth is that it's hard to be financially sustainable in the free software world, and Yorba never really found a way to do that.  I was Yorba's first executive director and Jim was the second, and we have now both moved on to other things.

I'm still proud of Yorba's accomplishments, most notably Geary and Shotwell.  I'm glad you liked the work we were doing.  I'd be happy to answer any other questions about Yorba.  cheers -

Copyright assignation to the Software Freedom Conservancy

I questioned myself why the copyright for California, the GNOME 3 calendar application developed by Yorba, was not held over to the Software Freedom Conservency. After reaching Adam Dingle by email, it appears it was an oversight from their part.

thanks for your message.  You've made a good point: we didn't actually transfer copyright for California.  This was simply an oversight on our part.  I just contacted the Software Freedom Conservancy about fixing this, so hopefully we can transfer the copyright soon.  thanks -

Foundation not dissolved yet

In a mail received today, Adam brings some precisions to the assumptions we made.

That is not actually true.  We did transfer our copyrights to the Software Freedom Conservancy, but the foundation has not formally dissolved yet - that should happen later this year.  regards -
