Untitled section edit

The Yamhill High Flyers are a legit, brand new, real, minor league basketball team based in McMinnville, Oregon. 2009 is the debut season. The page reflects this and should therefore not be deleted.Ebailey1981 (talk) 04:27, 8 April 2009 (UTC)Eric BaileyReply

Notability edit

The only way to ensure the article is kept is to ensure the article meets notability guidelines (click here to read them). Articles such as this that would be incorporated as references (not as external links) will help. But being a legitimate team is not a criteria. The lamp post outside my window is a legitimate light post (I can provide pictures if need be) and it exists. However, we do not and will not have an article on it as it is not notable. Now if a stain on it looks like Barack Obama and all the media covers it, then it would be notable. So until the light post, or this team, are notable, articles on either will be deleted. And for the author/team owner, do read about Wikipedia's guidelines on Conflicts of Interest. Aboutmovies (talk) 08:13, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Indeed this team is equally notable as other franchises in the same league. It has received media coverage, for which references have recently been added to the article. Although it is true the owner created the page, it appears unbiased and others are free to edit and verify the content of this article.kbailey1 (talk) 22:19, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
I would like to hear more about this lamppost. Seriously though, the franchise does have as much notability as the other franchises in the IBL - I have attempted to edit the page to hopefully alleviate the concerns of conflicts of interest. It should be noted that media coverage alone does not make a subject notable - everyone who has seen the last 20 minutes of a 30 minute television news broadcast knows this - however the fact that the other teams in this league, the inclusion of the league as a topic on its own, articles about other community features and activities in the McMinnville, OR area, and (despite my earlier comments) media coverage of this team lend credence to its notability. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Saturatedpratt (talkcontribs) 23:18, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Two points: first, as to other teams being notable. The other teams may or may not have articles, this does not mean they are or are not notable, in general see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. One, the others may need to be deleted, and two, notability is not inherited. Much like Will Vinton is from Mac, but that doesn't mean everyone from Mac is notable. Each is judged on their own merits. Second point is about what makes something notable. True, news coverage may not make something notable (though famous is a better word for what I think you are trying to say) in the real world, but this is Wikipedia, not the real world. On Wikipedia we go by what has been deemed notable via objective evidence as demonstrated by coverage in the media, which includes any form of reliable media, from books to newspapers, to TV stations, to magazines and the like. That is, refs 2 & 3 are what will keep this from being deleted. More of the same and there will be no question. Perhaps the Sheridan paper or the Newberg paper may have covered this (or send them a press release and see if they will write a story). Aboutmovies (talk) 06:56, 15 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
