Talk:Yahgan language

Untitled edit

The section about the language itself is too poor, it lacks more information on grammar, alphabet is O.K. according to Aguilera's works. In my opinion, it needs to be completed in phonology/phonetics (including the diverse studies that have bee made since XIX century, including Bridges, Adam, Haudricourt, Goldbert, Guerra Eissmann, Salas and Aguilera), in grammar, including a short section of pronouns, nouns and verbs, and a bibliography.

The quotation of that old Encyclopaedia Britanica, should be removed, as it is erroneous, It has nothing to do with the language and has a racist, pejorative meaning.

Spelling edit

Topic Heading should be spelled Yahgan, the original historical spelling, not with a gh, which was someone's misguided 'correction' based on English spelling which has unfortunately stuck. Yahganlang 18:41, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yaghan Website edit

I have a website building up regarding yaghan culture. I've used MediaWiki to let non-techie user to add/review content.

It's temporary URL is http://yaghan.no-ip.org, and it's up only between 9AM and 7PM Chilean Time (I think it's GMT -4).

Under the contents section in the navigation bar is the site itself. I haven't even changed the look yet, so any additions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Since this is a non-profit project, I took some content directly from Wikipedia, and put some placeholders for some of the topics that the site must hold.

Any contributions would be greatly appreciated.

transcription edit

Several examples contain the letter "v", which, however, is not included in the sound system presented in the article. These are presumably in the Bridges orthography rather than the current standard presented in the article.Bill (talk) 04:24, 6 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Consistency of spelling edit

While the possible variants are listed at the beginning of the article, shouldn't the article's body use the same spelling throughout? I was about to change all instances to match the spelling in the title of the article but I thought I'd check the talk page first, and there's a section here from 2007 saying that "Yaghan" is actually a hypercorrection, so I wasn't going to change anything until I posted it here.
