If the term itself is actually used, it should be split from that of the Channel 101 show. In other words, have one section for the term itself, then below, cite the Channel 101 show.

This article needed some cleanup work

Although I am well aware that the entire "Yacht Rock" was done "tongue-in-cheek," I think we all have a responsibility to keep this 'pedia as professional as possible. In the future, it would be appreciated if those of you responsible would refrain from using the word "brainfart." Thank you.

Seperate Article

Correct, as shown by the Google Groups post mentioned in the article, but the term wasn't popularly used. If you scroll through Google, nearly all of the hits for "yacht rock" mention the show. I couldn't find a single page that solely referred to the music as "yacht rock" that pre-dated the existence of the show, save for that Google Groups post. (And, even in that case, the post talked about Buffett, not Loggins and company.)

Before the show, people referred to this music by terms like "soft rock" or "adult contemporary". Per Wiki's verifiability guidelines - if "yacht rock" was used before the show to describe this music, we need a source that confirms it.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't split the articles. It just seems that creating an expansive article on "yacht rock" that doesn't mention the show would be misleading. -- ChrisB 00:17, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

- this convo took place in 2006, but there really does need to be a separate article, regardless of whether the term was popularized by the show or not. the "yacht rock" sound has been trending in the indie music community for at least a year or two now, especially in the "chillwave" genre (ugh), and recent albums by relevant acts like Bon Iver, Destroyer, and m83 have at least a couple of obvious nods to the sound. all i'm saying is that it's become relevant enough now to warrant it's own article if someone more knowledgeable than myself is willing to write one. -- hacker_jerkoff 9:33, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

Please do not separate the article

Just sort of a post-AfD addendum - please resist the urge to split the show and the genre into separate articles. The AfD (linked at the top of the page) came about largely because the two concepts (at the moment) aren't necessarily notable enough to survive on their own.

If a separation is desired in the future, let's be sure to have an open discussion about it beforehand, just to avoid what happened here. -- ChrisB 22:23, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Is "yacht rock" actually a genre?

Above, it was proposed that the article be split, but it seems to me that there is no particular need for an article about "Yacht rock" as its own musical genre at all. Yacht rock doesn't really exist as a genre, and can, in fact, be expanded by the creators of the series to include just about anything they want to include - as they've done by including a Van Halen song. It seems to me we should really have an article Yacht Rock, about the series, and discuss the music in context of the series, rather than vice versa. john k 18:49, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

I agree. I think the reason the genre survived as the primary article name is because it had more stuff in it at the time, and the users had already added links to the genre article all over the place (via categories, etc.) in a very short period of time. Gino (the Manager)

Does the "Gino (the Manager)" episode have anything to do with Hall & Oates? It has the same name as a song from their Self Titled 1975 album. Should that be mentioned on the page? Also "Gino" is Tommy Mottola.

Chronology / Narrative?

Would anyone mind if I added a Yacht Rock listing in chronological order as well as a more detailed breakdown of the narrative of the show? Split article nominated for deletion

Back in 2005, the article "yacht rock" was created, determined to be a WP:Neologism, and refactored into this article about the show; then again created as a separate article in 2006, and deleted as a WP:Neologism, redirected back to this article. A user has now split the "yacht rock" term into a separate article again; I've nominated it for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yacht rock (2nd nomination). --Closeapple (talk) 07:24, 22 September 2016 (UTC)

I'd like to add to the section about the Yacht Rock station on Sirius XM. I feel that it's worth noting that the creators of the Yacht Rock series often take issue with Sirius XM for including so much "Nyacht" on their playlist.
