Number of rows/columns edit

I believe that there is a fundamental error in this article and others that refer to it. The engine is described as "7-banks with 6 cylinders in each bank". Radial engines have an odd number of cylinders per bank for reasons described in the wiki page for radial engines. I believe that the engine was 6 banks of 7 cylinders each. The photos also seem to show an odd number of cylinders per row. However, I don't have any documentary evidence to support the assertion, so I'm letting the text stand for now. I'll change it (and connected articles) if I can find a reference. Rmyers7 (talk) 01:03, 2 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I found a reference, about as unequivocal as you can get. A builder plate for one with a schematic of the engine showing 7 cylinders per row (A-G) and 6 rows. [1]. I'm changing the article now. Rmyers7 (talk) 01:31, 2 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

It's complicated, and really depends on one's point of view. If viewed as an inline engine, it has 7 banks of 6 cylinders each. However, it's designated as a radial engine (R-), and thus would have 6 rows of 7 cylinders each. I'd go with the designation view. BilCat (talk) 23:30, 4 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
