False News

I am a radio amateur and right after a local check-in net. We had several hams who announced on frequency that a meteor had crashed in Wyoming and there was live coverage on the local CBS affiliate (WHBF-4 Rock Island IL). I had checked the tv listings and so knew there was a movie on tv at the time. So I announced the same on the air. I don't edit wikipedia anymore so anyone can do what they what to this which includes deleting this. Mws72 (talk) 20:48, 17 May 2019 (UTC)

CNN response

An unsourced statement in this article has bugged me for more than a year, and I have removed it: Following the movie, CNN issued an order that its reporters and anchors will not be allowed to play themselves or any other role in a movie (though many have since done so). Aside from the fact it is not sourced, I believe it also to be incorrect. To the best of my knowledge, CNN issued the order based upon the manipulation of actual news footage for the film Contact, not because of this TV movie. Longitude?

I am changing the sentence "A scientist notes that the objects hit on the exact same point of longitude in a mathematically precise way and suggests the impacts may have been deliberate." to "A scientist notes that the objects hit in a mathematically precise way and suggests the impacts may have been deliberate." If the three fragments struck the US, France, and China, then they weren't on the same longitude. --65.33.225.208 (talk) 19:13, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Here's what's probably correct: W104-W111 longitude is Wyoming, E104-E111 is China, France is at 1W-7E longitude... all impacts took place along the same latitude, which falls in those countries (About N43-N45 is common to all three locations). Although, if the movie REALLY wanted to be correct for equidistant longitude with regards to the North Pole, it would have placed the impact in central Oregon at about N44, W120. Then again, the longitude is pretty much arbitrary, only humans would have access to knowing about the Prime Meridian, which is really an arbitrary line drawn out as a standard... There is no real physical boundary for extraterrestrials to know, except for having the drops being equidistant by 120 degrees each of our longitude. Similarly, the latitude was an arbitrary choice too... they could have just as well had the landings happen north of London, England, East of Vancouver, Canada, and on the border of China and Russia in Siberia.Erpbridge (talk) 05:11, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
