  • Hesitant Agree. Seems reasonable that the page move will help a casual observer. I'm fine with either "Winnie the Pooh (franchise)" or "Winnie the Pooh (Disney)", but....

*Disagree. However, I do not agree with how the proposed redirecting was laid out. There is no reason to redirect "Winnie the Pooh" to the disamb page when it should redirect to the newly moved page that it was originally based on. The disamb hatlink on appropriate Pooh-related landing pages should be enough.SpikeJones (talk) 21:48, 18 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think you're confusing what the nominator is suggesting. He or she's saying "Winnie the Pooh" should redirect to "Winnie-the-Pooh", the character, not to a disambiguation page. YeshuaDavidTalk • 23:33, 18 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Re-reading, perhaps I missed the comma. Still think there should be a clearer hatlink on the redirected page to point to the franchise as well as the disamb page. The casual observer who wanders to the WTP page, as seen by a recent talk comment posted there, may not be aware that there is a distinction between the two if it is not clearly mentioned as such in addition to the disamb page. Speculative information in revival section edit

Per our guidelines at WP:CRYSTAL, WP:NFF and WP:BLP, only those names which have reliable references can be used in this section about an upcoming film. This a future film, still in production, in which there can (and often are) many subsequent delays and changes in personnel. There is no crushing need to add speculative information here at any time. I've deleted the names which do not have a solid reputable reference. (Note that consensus opinion on Wikipedia is that IMDb is not a reliable source for future films -- please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Future films#Resources) It is not up to Wikipedia to report rumors or speculate -- rather only provide factual information supported by solide sources. Please either wait for the film's release, reviews by established journalists of the finished product or official announcements from the production company. CactusWriter (talk) 22:18, 3 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Pooh's gender is actually female. Can we edit this. The written based the character off a bear in Canada. Msimonjr (talk) 01:08, 18 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

"Pooh" for short edit

Although we sometimes call Winnie the Pooh as "Pooh" the line "or Pooh for short" is not needed. ACMEWikiNet (talk) 02:31, 26 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Whitewashing Chinese controversy edit

An IP has been trying to remove the referenced material from The Guardian and BBC regarding the censorship of the subject's name and image in China. I will leave this as a discussion point for all editors to try and avoid an edit war. Ifnord (talk) 01:07, 24 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

The user behind the said IP address:

Weibo.com is the Chinese Twitter. The "reputed" news sources mentioned by Ifnord claimed that Winnie the Pooh is censored in China.

However, a simple search on weibo.com shows that Winnie the Pooh is not banned: https://s.weibo.com/weibo?q=winnie%20the%20pooh&wvr=6&Refer=SWeibo_box

Furthermore, merchandises related to Winnie the Pooh can be found easily in China as it was documented in my edit (which was deleted by Ifnord) :

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Winnie_the_Pooh_(Disney_character)&oldid=1008565634

The proofs I provided were:

1. Winnie the Pooh plushies can be found easily on taobao.com (Chinese Amazon/ebay equivalent).

Link: https://www.taobao.com/list/product/%E5%B0%8F%E7%86%8A%E7%BB%B4%E5%B0%BC%E7%8E%A9%E5%81%B6_16.htm

2. Winnie the Pooh themed adventures at the Shanghai Disney Park.

Link: https://www.shanghaidisneyresort.com/en/attractions/adventures-winnie-pooh/

3. Original Winnie the pooh animation series available on iqiyi.com (Chinese Hulu/Youtube).

Link: https://www.iqiyi.com/v_19rrgd1pc0.html

Given the wide availability of Winnie in China, it's inaccurate to claim that Winnie the Pooh is banned or censored in China, to say the least.

Therefore, it's necessary to modify the wiki page to reflect the current situation.

There are multiple, trusted sources which state the image and Chinese name is banned on Chinese social media and networks. The fact that physical plushies may be available is irrelevant to that discussion. Ifnord (talk) 16:14, 24 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

The user behind the said IP address:

It only takes one click for you to check if Winnie the Pooh is not banned on Chinese social media.

But it seems to me that you didn't notice the link.

So here, let me help you.

This is the screenshot if you go to that Weibo page. The screenshot was made on 2/24/2021 and uploaded to imgur: Link: https://imgur.com/bzY3ZPs

I don't see how any news reports can beat literally countless actual proofs of people making posts about Winnie on Chinese social media.

Mind you, Weibo is a social media website that has 511 million monthly active users while Twitter only has 330 million according to statista.com.

Twitter stats: https://www.statista.com/statistics/282087/number-of-monthly-active-twitter-users/

Weibo stats: https://www.statista.com/statistics/795303/china-mau-of-sina-weibo/

Also, can you point out how the physical plushies being available in China is irrelevant to the discussion about Chinese censorship on Winnie the Pooh?

As it was so profoundly defined by Wikipedia: Censorship is the suppression of speech, public communication, or other information.

However, the presence of Winnie the Pooh on Chinese social media is suggesting the opposite. And the fact that Winnie the Pooh plushies can be easily found on taobao.com further proves my point.

What about the Disneyland in Shanghai? An actual Winnie the Pooh themed adventure open to all ages every week. This is also strong proof against what the wiki page is claiming.

Given the solid proofs I provided, it's easy to see that Winnie the Pooh is not banned on Weibo.com. And needless to say, Weibo.com is generally perceived as THE CHINESE SOCIAL MEDIA AND NETWORK.

So here is my question: Do you have any genuine proofs to support your claim that Winnie the Pooh is censored on Chinese social media and networks?

I'm not talking about some random news report from a couple of years ago speculating about how the political dynamic in China might be related to a cartoon character.

No.

What I want from you (and the people who think Winnie the Pooh is banned on Chinese social media) is simple and straightforward: actual proofs of Winnie the Pooh getting censored on Chinese social media.

Do you have any?

If not, would you (and the people like you) kindly step away and let me or other people fix this part of the wiki page so we can all get back to whatever we were doing?
