Comments edit

Well-put together article. Some comments:

  • Is it known why he went on instruction duties? Did this have to do with his success as a pilot? It is somewhat implied here.
  • It will have been as a rest from operational flying. The amount of flying he would have done during the BoB would have been extremely fatiguing and from other BoB pilot articles I have worked on, it seems to have been standard practice in the RAF to rest pilots by having do instruction duties. I have tweaked the text to better clarify this. Zawed (talk) 10:51, 11 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • He destroyed a Focke-Wulf Fw 190 on 17 May while flying over Saint-Omer and was also credited with a probable Fw 190. On 2 June, he helped shoot down a further Fw 190, sharing the credit with another pilot, near Le Crotoy. He was also credited with the probable destruction of a Fw 190. Is there a redundancy here or was he credited for two possible Fw 190 kills? If the former, I'd remove first instance.
  • No, that is correct although I have clarified that the shared kill was confirmed. In doublechecking this I found a typo. I read 17 Mar in the source as 17 May so have fixed this as well. Zawed (talk) 10:42, 11 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • It isn't a major problem in this article, but it's best to avoid "enemy" in most instances outside of the official statements, per WP:NPOV. Enemy is a contextual, antagonistic category; "German" or "Italian" (whichever is applicable) is preferable when possible.
  • I have gone through and taken these out. Zawed (talk) 10:10, 11 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Later in the month, Roll was made a flight commander in the squadron. Citation needed.
  • I'm surprised I missed that! Cite added now. Zawed (talk) 10:19, 11 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • The latter was claimed as a probably but he was subsequently credited with the destruction of both aircraft as two C.202s were seen to have gone down in the sea. There seems to be a word missing here or some grammatical issue.
  • The next day, Rolls was one of eight aircraft of No. 126 Squadron --> Rolls was one of eight "pilots" or "flying one of eight aircraft" something or other.
  • I'm getting very few hits on Google for "United States Air Evaluation Board". Is it possible this body was known by another name?
  • Not sure, my source refers to it as US Air Evaluation Board. I get a few hits searching for "Air Evaluation Board" in combination with USAAF, one of which was this book, and looking at the index, it looks like there may have been multiple boards, one for each theatre of operations. • Not a GA problem, but it is not necessary to specify for all the books published in London (the famous one) that they are in the UK per AP guidelines.
  • @Indy beetle: thanks for looking at this one. I have made a number of edits (here) and responded above. Cheers, Zawed (talk) 10:54, 11 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Noting my satisfaction with the responses, I will pass this as a Good Article. Nice work! -Indy beetle (talk) 06:31, 12 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
