Letters of Pontius Pilate claim edit

There are several people who claim Letters of Pontius Pilate: Written During His Governorship of Judea to His Friend Seneca in Rome is the source of a letter from Pontius Pilate used by apologists. This is demonstrably not true.

The often quoted letter actually comes from the Acts of Pilate and is quoted in works before 1928: Houston, George (1827) The Correspondent Vol 1 pg 354-355; Clough, William Overton; (1880) Gesta Pilati University of Michigan ASIN: B0038QONFQ pgs 97-98; Huidekoper, Frederic (1883) Indirect testimony of history of the genuineness of the Gospels. 4th ed pg pg 143-144.

Logically since the Letter is cited in works that predate the book the book can NOT be the source. (This is why we don't use blogs from unknown authors as sources, people.)--216.31.124.240 (talk) 03:58, 14 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

As the Catholic Encyclopedia says, there are several ancient but pseudographical (i.e. fabricated) "Letters" and "Reports" attributed to Pontius Pilate that can be found in the New Testament Apocrypha. However, some gullible people have actually mistaken Crozier's 1928 fictional work for the real thing. Here is an example: http://www.cjfm.org/historical-evidence-of-jesus.
