..my understanding was that Colonel lIght actually used an earlier plan which was penned by an ex convict?

While this comment is quite wrong, it may been formed by combining and misunderstanding two identifiable fragments of historical information. There has been speculation that Light brought with him some sort of draft plan of Adelaide, which had been used to facilitate land sales in London. If there was such a plan it does not exist today. The plan can only have been partial, perhaps the layout of what became known as the "city square mile" - which is in fact neither square nor a mile - because everything else was fitted to the topography of the Adelaide plain, which was not known to Light or anyone else in London. The ex-convict in the garbled story is presumably Edward Wakefield, the theoretical founder of South Australia, who despite his role in forming the non-convict Australian colony, had an embarrassing prison term in his resume which no-one talked about. But Wakefield played no role in laying out Adelaide or drawing any plans. Peter Bell (talk) 09:26, 28 November 2017 (UTC)

Merge proposal
This article is all over the place, and IMO would be better merged into the William Light article, with bits perhaps into History of Adelaide, Adelaide city centre and elsewhere as appropriate. The title is ambiguous, and most google hits refer to the statue, not the abstract concept of his vision. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 06:00, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
