"Error" vs. Controversy

Since LeMessurier's original plans were altered, he didn't really make an error...those that changed the plans did. see the building article for more details.Ryoung122 00:39, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Since he failed to consider a quartering wind, it was an error, a design oversight. The error was compounded by the change in construction method from the original engineering design, of which LeMessurier was apparently unaware at the time the building was constructed, because the contractor turned to the City of New York for permission to change the plans, not the original structural engineer. — Quicksilver^{T @} 21:57, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Mr. LeMessurier's date of death

Mr. LeMessurier's date of death is JUNE 14, 2007. He is listed as dying on both June 14 AND July 14. (Neat trick on his part!) All articles on him state the June date.

Just wanted to point it out to someone so that it can be corrected.

LeMessurier MIT talk

LeMessurier gave a talk at MIT in 1996 about the Citibank building and the fix. It is fascinating for those who are interested in it. The talk is available on YouTube at The Fifty-Nine-Story Crisis: A Lesson in Professional Behavior.

×== DeCarolis involvement ==

DeCarolis is mentioned here, but there seems to be some discrepancy between what he states and what his involvement actually was. LeMessurier had stated before he died that he never spoken directly with the student that prompted the repairs Citicorp tower.

I'm unsure where this goes-- I'm hesitant to correct the article here, because there is likely some truth to DeCarolis' recollection of events, however aspects of it have been contradicted by his own interviews, and statements later made by those that spoke with LeMessurier.

Additionally, there are some missing citations on the DeCarolis line.

editing here; I was somewhat mistaken- LeMessurier did speak to a student, but then later contradicted himself stating he had spoken to a young man. I think it's prudent for someone to dig into this a little more, as there needs some additional citation work to clarify DeCarolis' involvement, as much of what's out there is first-hand accounts from DeCarolis that he wrote several decades later.
