An edition BBC genealogical programme "Who Do You Think You Are" (which tries to trace the roots of various celebrities) broadcast in July 2010 which dealt with Bruce Forsyth's ancestors, no mention was made of any connection with William Forsyth. The programme dealt in detail with a great grandfather, Joseph Forsyth Johnston, who has some success as a landscape gardner in England, Northern Ireland, New York and Atlanta, Georgia (leaving various families in various locations) but no allusion was made to either William or a connection with the naming of the plant Forsythia. Obviously, there is a common link to gardening so perhaps some documentation exists which would explain the link, but I would imagine Bruce, or the documentary, would have mentioned it in a genealogical programme.
