WMS Server edit

How could set up a wms sever so that my browser can get the map info I need ? What kind of data scourse can I use,In what format? If I can handle this in IIS how can I transplant it on tomcat??

I'd look at OpenLayers for that.

Google Earth's WMS support edit

This page suggests Google Earth can act as a WMS client, but I can't see anything about that in Google Earth's help: is it true? —Preceding unsigned comment added by PeterParslow (talkcontribs) 17:01, 13 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

As far as I know, you are right, Google Earth does not support WMS. (unless it is WMS encapsulated in the Network-KML standard, thus not direct WMS anymore) I will remove Google Earth from the list of WMS-supporting software. -- Lordsatri (talk) 18:40, 4 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

List of online map services edit

Is the article List of online map services a list of Web Map Services or not? --2A02:2C40:200:0:0:5EFE:A5C:830F (talk) 15:17, 29 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

- In my opinion, no. There's thousands, if not more, WMS servers over the Internet - it doesn't make sense to me listing them on Wikipedia. Instead of listing individual servers, maybe we should start pointing to CSW catalogs of WMS servers? -- Lordsatri (talk) 10:38, 30 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Seemingly unnecessary lists of software edit

I find the many lists of software to be confusing and incomplete. Is there a reason to have those lists in this article and not just a reference to http://www.opengeospatial.org/resource/products as a way to find software that implement the specification? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.174.164.5 (talk) 20:57, 23 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Change history edit

will be encyclopedic to notice the main changes, for exemple at v1.3 the standard axis was changed from x/y to y/x (longlat to latlong). --Krauss (talk)

Mention the problems edit

Mention the problems of WMS like the Web Map Tile Service article does. Jidanni (talk) 09:53, 19 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
