WaylandWayland (disambiguation) – I would like Wayland to redirect to Wayland (display server protocol), I think even in the Wikipedia it is recognized as being important enough by now User:ScotXWt@lk 19:22, 22 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

You are right, Wayland is also missing in the Guinness World Records, that is why only few people search for it... we could of course rather compare the Wikipedia page hits of Wayland protocol and Wayland rest ...User:ScotXWt@lk 20:15, 23 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Found it: Wayland protocol: 11392 times in 201403 Wayland: 971 times in 201403 and the Smith 3172 times in 201403; that is an argument in my eyes. Let's move the page. User:ScotXWt@lk 20:30, 23 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per IIO; hits for this month are going to be skewed, since it was listed in a rename discussion. Hits should be compared over the entire 2013 year. Even then, per IIO, Wikipedia is not the sum whole of the world, there are other considerations, like longterm significance (hence the book results) -- 70.50.151.11 (talk) 08:17, 24 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose, there are a substantial number of old and prominent meanings. bd2412 T 14:44, 26 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose: no convincing evidence it's the primary topic. PamD 12:19, 27 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

WaylandWayland (disambiguation) – I propose that Wayland redirects to Wayland the smith, which would have beneath the title a link to the disambiguation page. From what I can see, the legendary smith is the oldest attestation of the name by far and has the second-highest number of viewers (with the highest being the "display server protocol"). Though the naming of this protocol page I can't find easily, it seems most names on the main page are derived from the legendary figure, be it indirectly or not.--Ingwina (talk) 21:09, 23 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose. Never heard of Wayland the Smith. Francis Wayland would be my first assumption. But that is neither here nor there. I very much doubt there's any primary topic here. Walrasiad (talk) 21:53, 23 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
And checking up on your claim, it seems many of the things (towns, institutions, schools, etc.) named "Wayland" on this list are named in honor of Francis Wayland, who was a very influential Baptist leader (I'm guessing many first personal names are also after him, in the common American fashion of using religious leaders names like Wesley, Calvin, etc. as first names). And Francis Wayland in turn is named after the English region of Wayland, Norfolk, which name has nothing to do with the mythological creature, directly or indirectly. In fact, I see nothing on this list (save for one neolithic site) named after the creature. Walrasiad (talk) 22:07, 23 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose The protocol received more than twice the daily average of views last year compared to the smith. Discounting the author Patricia Kennealy-Morrison listed only for title of a book, there are still several other pages that had a non-trivial average daily view. The smith is clearly not the primary topic. And evidence for the protocol being primary is not overwhelming. olderwiser 22:03, 23 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per Walrasiad and older ≠ wiser. There are 42 entries listed upon the Wayland disambiguation page, with no indication that the historical renown of the character from mythology is so overwhelming that it dwarfs the combined notability of the remaining 41 entries. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 03:11, 24 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Strong oppose Wayland (display server protocol) gets more views (12,307) that Wayland the Smith (3,908) and Wayland, Massachusetts gets 1,488[[1]]. Though the protocol probably has less long-term significance than Smith it is a full match unlike Smith. Crouch, Swale (talk) 08:23, 24 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
    • The smith is usually just called Wayland, so the partial match thing is not really relevant! -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:19, 28 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
      • Struck though the point remains he isn't primary by usage even if he is normally called just "Wayland". Crouch, Swale (talk) 13:26, 28 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment The Smith gets about 11% of the onward clicks from the dab page, while the server protocol gets 84% [2]. This does not appear to be down to a recent spike in reader interest: that article has been receiving steady pageviews since the start of the tracking tool 7 years ago. – Uanfala (talk) 22:47, 25 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose the derivation of names has nothing to do with being the primary topic. Your own argument suggest the protocol should be the primary topic (as was proposed in 2014) -- 65.92.246.142 (talk) 03:54, 27 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose WP:SNOW In ictu oculi (talk) 07:32, 28 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. Snow or not, I would actually agree that it's a clear primary topic. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:19, 28 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
How so when it is not even the most commonly viewed article that could be titled as "Wayland"? olderwiser 15:34, 28 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
    Long-term significance. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:26, 29 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
