SW class edit

There is SW5 and SW6 trams, they don't seem to be W class trams to me, Vicsig.net agrees and that's what most of this melbourne tram wiki is based on. Has anyone really even thought about this? wiesel (talk) 15:24, 8 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

They have the 'S' appended to the front of the code, but I could still consider them part of the W class family as they have a lot in common. The average person can't tell them apart, I wouldn't be able to unless I poked about on Vicsig. (which is why the W class variants got merged in to this page) I would recommend the 'SW' stay part of the W class page, but just see what other people think first. Bit late, but I agree with Wongm. The differences between the W and SW class are minor, and I doubt there would be enough information to warrant a dedicated article on the variant. IMO sections should only be split into articles when they become too long to stay in their parent article but SW class Melbourne tram is currently a stub which contains less information than the section about it in this article. I'd suggest deleting the new article, for the same reason why I suggested merging the old mess where each variant of tram had its own article, none of them with a useful amount of information. invincible (talk) 04:34, 31 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

756 edit

Melbourne #756 is in use (in modified form as a biodiesel and battery powered hybrid) in Savannah, Georgia as Dottie the River Street Streetcar. The Georgia websites with stories may mention "W5" but do not distinguish between "W5" and "SW5" (a term not mentioned). The video narration at dot implies that 756 was built between 1935 and 1939. 69.119.27.73 (talk) 00:19, 26 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Subclasses edit

For completeness this article should also cover the W1, SW2, W3, W4, W5, CW5 (built with equipment from the ex-Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust C class) and the one off W8. 203.7.140.3 (talk) 01:46, 14 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

South Africa - Franschhoek edit

2 of these trams are going to run in Franschhoek, South Africa. Imported for R2.5m each.

Renaming to 'W-series Melbourne Tram' edit

Hi, I would like to request that the name of this article be renamed. The actual 'W-Class' is not referring to W,W1,W2,SW2,W3,W4 etc but only to the W itself, a design very different to for example the W7. The correct term for all of these trams (W,W1,W2,SW2,W3,W4,CW5,W5,W6,W7,W8) is 'W-series'. Although there may not be any links to this online, this is because since the 1990s, the trams in service have been pretty uniform (SW5-W8 design is pretty much the same on the outside), and so people have simply began referring to them lazily as the W-Class. Please talk to me about yes/no for this. MetroManMelbourne (talk) 21:55, 3 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Tram 1026 edit

The Mount Buller link - I'm unsure if it is "Mount Buller (Victoria)", the mountain, or "Mount Buller, Victoria", the town or even "Mount Buller Alpine Resort" -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 22:48, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

User:ShelfSkewed, is that the correct "Mount Buller" disambiguation? --ThylacineHunter (talk) 04:15, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
And to add to your list, there's a hotel in Mount Buller called the Mt Buller Chalet. My thinking was that the resort is in the town, and the town is at the top of the mountain, so I, rashly, chose the one that seemed to cover all the bases. I have tagged the link for help with disambiguation. Cheers! —ShelfSkewed Talk 04:38, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
4/4/2022 noted as still sitting at Mansfield[1], to be restored for Mt Buller Chalet[2]
If it can be determined that the tram is being restored for the hotel, the note could be expanded to "To be restored for Mt Buller Chalet, a hotel in Mount Buller, Victoria", making the description and linking correct. But I couldn't find anything online to confirm this.—ShelfSkewed Talk 14:18, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
@ShelfSkewed maybe wait until it's moved to Mount Buller, and it can be verified exactly which one to use. -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 21:51, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Preserved trams list edit

Hi all,

There is a list and map of trams including W class trams which were sold by VicTrack in 2018 [1] [2]. Sorry that I can’t help at the moment with adding references and information regarding this as I’m busy with other commitments, but if anyone would like to help, please feel free. Removing hyphen from article name edit

I am proposing to remove the hyphen from the title of this tram article, as the official nomenclature from the Department of Transport and Planning is not to have hyphens in tram class names. Examples include on their official website [3], the Melbourne Tram Plan [4] and the PTV website [5]. Other common unofficial sources like Vicsig also do not have a hyphen. I'm also proposing to change all the other Melbourne tram class article names in a similar manner, any feedback welcome! Takerlamar (talk) 00:05, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
