Location

Nice job on this stub, interesting story, but based on the information, "Located on the west side of the upper St. Johns River entrance on the south side of Lake George" from, [1] and the statement about pilings still being visible, wouldn't you say that 29°12′24″N 81°34′46″W is the former location of the light? I understand that GNIS shows the bar at the point you've used, but it looks from the aerial and the topo that the bar extends along much of the south end of the lake, both east and west of the channel. Take a look at the image, especially, the zoomed in aerial photo, you'll see a set of 4 pilings west of the channel / jetty. Use the Acme-mapper link and pick image. Pick dot = no to get rid of the crosshairs. I guess I'm not 100% sure, but it seems to fit the description as well as the fact that it sits right on a serious navigational hazard just out side of the channel. --Dual Freq 04:34, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

I used the GNIS coords for 'Volusia Bar'. I saw that the coords were wrong for the lighthouse, but I couldn't spot the pilings (I was looking closer to the mouth of the river), and went to bed without changing anything. Your coords definitely look like the pilings, and I changed them in the article. Thanks for finding the correct location. This was a tough one, four references yield just one paragraph of text.
