Senator Vitter edit

There is currently a content dispute over the information on this disambiguation page about Senator Vitter. Vitter was currently identified as being a client of the DC Madam and this is elaborated on in that article. Disambiguation pages are suppose to be used to identify the subject of articles. Stating that he is a U.S. Senator from Louisiana satisfies that and so other commentary on this article is unnecessary. Thank you.--Jersey Devil 04:43, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

From Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages): "Keep in mind that the primary purpose of the disambiguation page is to help people find the information they want quickly and easily." Including the connection about the DC Madam (which is cut and pasted directly from the lede of the David Vitter article) certainly satisfies that goal. Ewlyahoocom 04:54, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
The article has recently been protected with the edit summary stating that it was a BLP dispute. I don't think it is BLP dispute. I mean, it has pretty much been established that he was a client of the DC Madam. The problem I think was that, the content didn't belong on the disambiguation page. Just wanted to clarify my sentiments. Perhaps the protection will give us an opportunity to discuss this however.--Jersey Devil 04:55, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
As I stated, the information about him being a Senator from Louisiana satisfies the MOS guideline of identification. We wouldn't use the text next to Sen. Ted Kennedy on Ted Kennedy (disambiguation) to state "U.S. Senator from Massachusetts who was involved in the Chappaquiddick incident" because the last part would be inappropriate and would sound like someone attempting to make a political point.--Jersey Devil 04:59, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
If you really thought a bit about Chappaquiddick would help our readers find the article they want "quickly and easily" then I'd say go for it. Ewlyahoocom 05:06, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
