apocryphal

There is a "citation needed" tag in the first line after the word "apocryphal." I am assuming the meaning of the word here is that of "spurious" or "false." The story here seems to give the story clearly and at the end seems to have additional references (Liv. iii. 44—58; Dionys. xi. 28—46; Val. Max. vi. 1. § 2.). Wouldn't these references take it out of the category of "spurious" or "false" and closer to authoritative sources? --Doug Coldwell ^talk 12:48, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Honor killing

No. Verginius killed his daughter to protect her honour, not his, and to keep her from a fate worse than death. "Honour killing" is about the killer's "honour", which the daughter/sister has tarnished. -- Zsero (talk) 23:53, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

I know. But i said AKIN. Sir, your answer of "no" seems to me to be incorrect. If Verginius had indicated he killed his daughter to protect the honor of his family, then it would have been out of place for me to use the word "akin," wouldn't it?(Because it wouldn't be akin, it would be the same.)

But: The story may be apocryphal, but it quite possily reflects many real incidents. It seems likely to me that Livy would have "dressed up" Verginius's "honor" to be more altruistic than it had been for the killers in the real incidents, since Livy was propagandizing against a return of kingship. The two are not in the least akin. They're exact opposites. I know of no evidence that honour killing existed in that society, in any form, so Livy would have had no reason to pretty it up. -- Zsero (talk) 01:59, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Changing Verginia into Virginia

The French Wikipedia article has now been changed from Verginia to Virginie. You should do the same, from Verginia to Virginia. I understand that pronunciation is the same, but think of some centuries of English literature and culture !
