Commercial vehicles edit

Buses, trucks, etc. in Russia and many former USSR countries often have their registration number painted on them in large letters. I believe this is still required as of 2006, but could someone who knows better add this information to the article?  ProhibitOnions  (T) 18:27, 3 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Since July 1, 2008 it's doesn't need anymore. Also, I have one question and one qualification and addition. As addition I want to tell, that there're some more types of license plates: for civil there's a number of square plates, uses for tractors, tractor trailers, other agricultural, road and self-propelled machinery. Square plates also uses for motocycles. More information about it here [1], it's in Russian, but I can comment. The qualification is about "yellow" numbers. Yellow numbers are not given anymore since November, 2009. And the question is about these words: "Some autonomous regions are not required to have the flag on the licence plates.". I don't understand this. Maybe here's spoken about earlier plates, that didn't have a flag... DanRussia (talk) 13:31, 30 November 2012 (UTC) See also my page in Russian wikipediaReply

cities vs oblasts edit

I believe one should link oblasts rather than administrative centers... i.e. Novgorod Oblast instead of Novgorod. What are your opinions? Goudzovski 18:58, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Absolutely. Someone was too lazy to type full names in properly.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 20:01, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
done. Fremantleboy 22:01, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

even older styles edit

Before white-on-black there was black-on-yellow style. It defenitely existed in 60's, but I have no idea when it was replaced. There is also no information in the article when the current style was introduced. schmalter (81.18.115.133 (talk) 15:54, 9 August 2009 (UTC))Reply

Vehicle registration plates of RussiaVehicle registration plates in Russia – Russia is not a vehicle and it does not have a registration plate. There are registration plates for vehicles in Russia. The current title is grammatically incorrect. Teyandee (talk) 14:06, 27 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Exactly what violation of grammar is supposed? There is nothing structurally wrong with the current title. Nor do I see lexical or semantic issues. Using of to show origin (vs. concrete possession) is quite common in English. —  AjaxSmack  03:31, 28 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • In Russia we can see license plates other than ones of Russia. And some license plates of Russia can be seen outside of Russia. This article is about the license plates of Russia, and not about license plates in Russia. Hellerick (talk) 12:20, 28 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • From the grammatical standpoint, I have no problem with either the current or the proposed variant. But since all articles in Category:Vehicle registration plates by country use "of", and since no convincing reason for why Russia should be treated differently has been presented, I have to oppose.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); October 28, 2013; 18:02 (UTC)
  • Oppose This spurious grammatical reasoning would actually not reflect the scope of the article, as Hellerick notes. Neljack (talk) 10:08, 29 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

There is a incoherence with the content of the article edit

In the section "runout problem" it says that it is not possible for the Russian government to use a number in every three-number code as a first numeral except for the number 1.

That is not true because Moscow has the code 777.

Either the code is wrong or the statement is. It must be corrected urgently — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aleksandrvladimirov (talkcontribs) 01:08, 7 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

The statement is wrong. Moscow got code 777, and now Moscow Oblast also got code 750. --188.93.241.166 (talk) 09:22, 8 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

RfC:Soviet Plates? edit

It is a fact that Russia is the successor state of the USSR, but as Soviet VRPs have a largely different format (and font), is it needed to actually move the "Soviet" part of this article(which is only a paragraph in length--more info?) into a new page named something like "Vehicle Registration Plates of the Soviet Union"? Varxo (talk) 11:31, 17 August 2016 (UTC)Varxo Furthermore, a separate page for the VRPs of the USSR exists on the Russian wikipedia, with the Russian version of this page covering only post-dissolution info.Varxo (talk) 12:00, 1 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
