Disambiguation in Wikipedia and other Wikimedia Foundation projects is the process of resolving ambiguity. The conflict occurs when a single term can be associated with more than one topic. In many cases, this word or phrase is the same natural title of more than one article. In other words, disambiguations are paths leading to different topic pages that share essentially the same term in their title.

I fail to see the ambiguity that is resolved by listing arbitrary people who are all known quite unambiguously by two names, one of which happens to be Vanessa. On the contrary, they merely add clutter – particularly when minor pop stars are placed ahead of Vanessa (name) and Vanessa (butterfly).

If you want a List of famous people called Vanessa, go ahead and create it, but don't clutter up this disambiguation page. Similarly, if you think Vanessa Feltz's TV show Vanessa] is sufficiently notable to warrant a separate article, by all means create Vanessa (TV show), and add that to this page.

I make no claims regarding the notability of the Vanessas that I have left in – but they do all appear to be known by the single name Vanessa – and to that extent they are ambiguous. Grant 15:27, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
